One of my companions has duplicated itself. I have the same one assigned to 3 different wolves at the same time. I didn't realize it was the same companion at first but the level and experience are all the same and are affected by each play interaction.

Check and see if you have three copies of the same companion. You can equip multiple copies of companions and they all share levels.
