Sending friend requests or having friends in game shouldn't be part of the achievement list. It gives an unfair advantage to people who are more social and will block people who are less social.

For example, I don't know anyone IRL interested in LW, I don't have friends here and may never get one. (same problem as with the referral exclusive companions) My achievement page will be blocked into limbo for no reason.

Another thing I fear could happen is predatory practices from people who will sell their services as becoming friends with people for a hefty price.

I completely understand the concern, but there has already been a thread of people volunteering to be sent a friend request and discord was full of volunteers. The other person doesn't even have to accept, you just have to send it. There are no restrictions about being friends for X amount of time etc. Unless Lorwolf accepts a very narrow scope of approved gameplay, there will be aspects that are easier for some players and harder for others.

You can also send a friend request to the NPC account. User ID 1-4 are for the four pack spirit wolves. Korvo is 5, but was used as a staff account in the past.

That's great, it shows how good this community is, but it's just a work around the problem. The best thing to do is addressing the problem that shouldn't be there in the first place.

Getting friends is not part of the gameplay. And having narrowed scoped of gameplay is unfortunately part of the game designer's job. The most difficulty is balancing things, so part of the player base is not too much advantaged than others.

This is an immense non-issue. It's not like the achievement is "make a friend and have a 10 page discussion with them". It is just clicking a button, and the other person doesn't even have to accept it. It's not that deep.

Again, there are NPC accounts. There are admin accounts. There are moderator accounts. You just have to send a request, it doesn’t have to be accepted.

There is also an achievement for posting in a thread, should that also be removed because forums are not a part of gameplay?

No support. Removing friends from your friend’s list is simple if they accept. With the admin accounts 1-4 it’s really no big deal. The achievements act as a tutorial of sorts so it’s good to have that even if you don’t plan on having any friends on a list.

If there were multiple levels to this achievement I might agree with you but it's just one, and you can send a friend request to an NPC and have it count so.. uh..

The referrals are far worse and if you were complaining about them I would fully support.

Adding on to say that if this achievement were to be removed, so should the forum posting achievement.
