Hi and Awoo everyone.
I'm making this suggestion because I'm tired of having difficulties following what has been reported, what has been acknowledged by the team or not. Or even reporting a bug only to discover someone already did it on the discord where it doesn't belong.
Both the forum and discord are terrible places for bug reporting and management. I can't imagine how messy it is for the dev to work with that. That's why we (the community and the devs) need a proper bug reporting tool.
I can suggest the following tools:
- Flyspray one of the best bug tracker out there, unfortunately the project is kinda dormant, and you have to use the indev version to get the latest patches and compatibility with php 8. If it wasn't in that state, I would have said go for it, but I'm not sure if it would be a good idea for production right now.
- MantisBT the second best, well maintained, but it has its quirks may not be easy to use for the average user. I'd recommend this one.
- Good old Redmine as reliable as it is, it is more a multitool project manager. As solid as a rock but very challenging to master, hard to use for users, more adapted for software projects. Wouldn't recommend.
- Bugzilla another great old one. Not really adapted for our purpose here; a bit like trying to kill a mosquito with an ICBM. But it should be mentioned.
- And then there are a ton of proprietary solutions, more or less expensive. I don't think the dev needs a leech on their money.
I know moving to a dedicated service is hard work, but I really think it's for the better in the long run. A few hours lost right now are days of work gained in the future. If needed, I even offer my help to set up things.
