[Cooking] Make basic cooking ingredients easier to obtain

I feel like this has been covered in multiple threads but not explicitly stated in it's own thread (apologies if it has been).

There are many recipes that are locked behind a shortage of what should be super common ingredients.

For example, salt and pepper are used in a lot of recipes, but 1 salt is selling for 1 moonstone at the moment on the flea market because it is just too darn rare. Milk appears to be similar, which has no sales on the FM at this point in time.

The one area to find cooking ingredients has no WW hunt, and in 2 stamina bars I did not get a single cooking encounter. Bad luck? Maybe. But it's a massive bottleneck and the accidental update a few week(s?) ago indicates that there is a desire for cooking to be better utilised. Making some of the inputs easier to obtain will help a lot.

I've seen multiple suggestions across alternate threads that could achieve this;

  • Include items into the drop tables of mobs that seem to make sense
  • Include items into the drop tables of companions that seem to make sense
  • Have always available for sale in the Mole Market (or a high-restock section with high buy limits)
  • Drop from "related" professions (salt obtainable from fishing or mining from a (new area) salt mine)

I'd support 1, 2, and 4 for the suggestions, but not 3. Maybe higher buy limits, but I think the rotation is good as it is (although that's just a personal opinion, I can understand if others don't like the current rotation).

Super big support for the others, though! They sound like really good ideas. Especially specific food dropping from professions. I love the salt mine idea!

I see #3 as not required if it is improved in other areas such as ideas 1,2 and 4 - but it's an easy alternative if they don't want to make changes elsewhere.

This, plus they really ought to be simplifying and toning down a lot of the supposedly early-level recipe requirements. It's a similar problem to the bows that they recently tweaked, they seem to be always balancing recipes around what they expect players to have accumulated since launch and not against the level of the recipe itself, which harms the new player experience... which I'm always harping on about being important, but it is so crucial that a balance is reached there between fun & progress, and right now LW is missing the mark with several professions.

I wholeheartedly support this idea. I've been playing for a week and haven't found salt or milk through campaigns or hunting. I check Marvin's Mole Market regularly and haven't seen those items for sale either.

  • Having dairy mobs and companions with better milk drop rates would be awesome.
  • A "Salt Mine" is an amazing idea. Even the potential to find salt while mining would improve accessibility for players.

***Increasing Marvin's Mole Market's food selection from 5 slots to 10 could help with accessibility, too.
