Agreed. To be fair, I feel like the way the devs are currently using the patch notes completely defeats the purpose of patch notes.
The entire idea of patch notes is to give a quick rundown of changes that were pushed through, which can be updated whenever the changes are pushed through, instead of waiting for a bigger announcement to be posted. If stuff is listed in the announcement, there is literally 0 need to also add it to the patch notes. If you are going to wait with posting/updating the patch notes until a bigger announcement is made, there is literally 0 need for the patch notes. Like why? Why tell us twice what you did, but in two different ways, causing all sorts of confusion?!
And I think because the abovementioned decisions, for some reason the devs might feel it is necessary to notify everyone of the existence of the patch notes when a new announcement is posted, leading to situations like this where they give us a notification that implies the patch notes were updated when they in fact weren't.
So I guess from me this is another appeal to properly use the patchnotes. And this means: giving us near-immediate updates on small changes whenever they happen. Not waiting until the announcement is posted to update the patchnotes. And not reposting the same changes that were just announced in the big announcement thread in the patch notes.
(Yes you can give a more elaborate update of changes that were previously posted in the patch notes in the next announcement thread - that is very normal to do. But not the other way around)
