Heya! You need to craft the meals. There's a good guide here and several others around, to see what ingredients you need to mix for specific recipes. ^^

Quick clarification that they can be cooked (so you need to use the cooking profession, not the crafting profession)
There is also a gardener's guild floating around somewhere that helps people get the meals they need to give to the NPCs.
