[MS Shards] Clarify/Overhaul MS shards

How do MS shards work? While it's possible to receive up to 25 shards a day, it doesn't seem like there is a lot of information on how they function. I noticed that I was going "dry" for shards after rollover every day, and when I brought it up another user mentioned their theory that MS shards roll over on a 24 hour timer since the last time you received "that" shard.

I tested this idea a bit yesterday and ALSO found that if you drop a MS shard from your mine cart, it seems to count as one of your 25 shards anyway! I dropped 10+ shards from my mine cart to test if I could get them to drop in fishing instead, and I only ended up with 12 shards gained yesterday.

Does this mean that if you lose a Gauntlet attempt with shards in your rewards, it counts against your daily limit, too?

If we are fishing and miss a ripple that would be a shard, does that count against the limit?

Clarification would be great! Otherwise, I would like to suggest an overhaul of the shard system -- please let the opportunity to nab all 25 shards happen at rollover. Maybe make them less common as drops, but at least give us the chance to start earning them at midnight.

More clarity & transparency with a relatively important chunk of site function would be nice. Many pet sites go out of their way to detail how everything functions for the users' benefit, and I think Lorwolf's neglect of that is unfortunate & should be corrected. ):

We definitely need more clarity and transparency on this. Especially since I fear you are right on some of your theories and those are incredibly punishing!!

Another thing I worry about is forexample, when I mine (which, in the higher levels, takes a long time to fill up my cart with usable ores) I get the moonstone ores on day 1. But I do not send my cart back to the furnace until the next day. Will those ores count towards my moonstone count on that second day, despite them also counting towards the maximum on the previous day and me actually finding them on that previous day. This is incredibly punishing if this is true, but at the moment it's just a theory. But if this theory is true, we as players can a. try to take countermeasures, but more importantly b. make proper suggestions to change such a punishing system.

In general though I'd wish they'd just completely abolish the daily limit. it is punishing in a lot of different ways. But as long as the system exists, we definitely need more clarity

Either get rid of the limit or at least double it but make shards a little less likely to get. Barely anyone buys ms anyway, the amount you can buy is a pittance for an awful expense.

LW is a game you need to grind at to progress anyway, it's not a 'pop on for 5 mins a day' game. Making such a change wouldn't have much if any negative impact.

These are all very good points that have been brought up; some of these theories aren't even things I would have considered as a possibility until now.

Clarification is definitely needed. If it ends up being true that shards work on a 24-hour timer, I think that absolutely needs to be changed to match the site's rollover (if this is indeed the case), as it's not possible to meticulously track each shard across a 24-hour period--especially if the other theories are true. I'm certainly hoping they're not.

I hope we get more information soon!

I can shed some light on that you can get them from any of the professions/gauntlet/activity rewards/pageants and that it's random chance for most things.

@Gaia

Punishing is definitely the word I'd use, too. And if you are even 1, 5, 30, 60 minutes late at collecting "that" available shard, it's now been pushed back to that new rollover time indefinitely. At least if you forget to nest your dogs, they still give birth to the puppies and their cooldowns are still counting. But shards have the chance to be completely missed with this system. I don't like to use the word "unfair," but bleh.

Exactly. And not even counting the fact that someone who has time to play, say 14 hours on Saturday gets less than someone who has time to play 2 hours each day. Despite spending the exact same amount of time on the game, the second person gets 7 times more rewards (assuming they get all their daily MS shards). How is that fair? I try to play every day, but I don't have time (or enough luck) each day to get to the daily limit. And it sucks that those shards are lost to me forever, despite the fact that on weekenddays I have all the time in the world to play and can technically make up for the lost time during the week.

Oh lord, I started to pay better attention to it now and I fear your theory is right. I woke up early (4am) rather than my usual 6am. Played Lorwolf, didn't get a single moonstone! Probably because that exact 24 hour timer wasn't up yet. What a horrible system! Imagine if I had woken up deliberately do play in the early morning, to get some moonstones knowing I couldn't play the rest of the day, Only for me to end up tired and still with 0 moonstones.

The system needs to be heavily improved but at the very least in the short run we need more information on how it works. To help us avoid chasing something that we simply can't get and thus wasting our time

I feel like the limit for shards is only causing a bigger hassle for people. The limit causes us to lose shards we can't get back through dropping ores, simply keeping shard ores in your minecart, lost gauntlet rewards, and now this timing thing. Even just having the information out there about what constitutes a "collected" shard for the daily limit would make this a lot better. Does me filling my cart with 25 ms ores and leaving that forever mean I can never collect any new shards? Does an uncollected smelted ms shard still count past rollover, even if you haven't collected it yet? What're the limits? Why can't we know? No limit would mean people wouldn't have to stress over what exactly constitutes a shard because moonstones are so limited and have SO many uses that missing out on even a few daily shards puts you back quite a bit.

I am a frequent player, and I still don't max out my shards every day. I really don't think it would cause the collapse of the economy to allow more shards to be gathered than the current limit. It's not like everyone is going to be farming 10 moonstones a day, if anyone will grind past the 25 it'll be those who already spend several hours on here every day and honestly deserve it.
