So, your thoughts?

So, first off, I want this thread to remain friendly. I don’t want it to get shut down because people are virtually throwing hands over here

ty :)

NOW

I want to ask, how do you all really feel about Lorwolf? In terms of gameplay, community, item pool (includes player made) and the market. What do you like? What do you dislike?

This is not in suggestions because it is more of a discussion thread than a massive suggestion thread.

My personal opinion:

- There needs to be more variety in events. It’s getting a little boring with the same four. Maybe a summer or winter solstice event, or Lunar new year. But overall, the quality of the events is pretty good! The PVE arena is fun, and I like the path costing only pebbles to get the special path. It makes it easier for newer players to access since pebbles are easy to get.

- My favorite thing about the site is the user-made apparel. While I feel like the CA market is at a sort of stalemate, I like that the site allows its players to create items for the game. This does, however, make it feel like the site is more dependent on its users to create outfit items. The only new ones we get are event apparel.

- The community is wonderful! Everyone here is nice, so I’ve seen. It does get kind of lonely sometimes, especially since the forums are a little slow and don’t always have very long threads that you can watch for updates (buuut that might just be me lol).

- Wolf good :)

Feel free to discuss your opinions ^w^

I mean for this thread to be friendly, so I hope this doesn’t get taken too far. It is simply a discussion on the site, and what we like :)

Note- I am returning after some time offline. Some things may have change, feel free to correct me!

Well hello and welcome back @ Wildsinger

I think we have a Halloween event coming up which is great! We had one last year anyway. I hope there are a few new items/wearables in it this year too. Here’s the thread from last year:

I’ll start off by saying that this site has soooo much potential, but I think one of the main complaints has been that there isn’t enough interaction with the LW team. I think that’s partly why it feels lonely sometimes. It can feel AI runned - like an experiment haha. It’d be nice just to have a little monthly news at the least like “Happy September!” with an uplifting quote of some kind then maybe someone’s wolf of the month too. This doesn’t seem like it would be difficult at all and would make it feel a little more interactive.

I agree that the CA pool feels stagnant even though there are many lovely items. One of the reasons for this I think is because a lot of the older artists are on pause and it’s too bad because they brought diversity and different styles to the game. Outside artists are largely responsible for driving the economy because they make people buy more stuff to make their wolves pretty, right? The artists are incentivized by getting money etc. in return and then it becomes a cycle - more people begin to play, make art, and buy things. I feel the way the CA shop works is a little flawed. We should be able to get our approved CA in our inbox and then be able to list it on the CA market as we see fit - a system like FR. I personally don’t like that if I get the CA delivered to me, I can’t list it in the CA market myself. I think things like this are important because sites like this are heavily art driven.

The community is definitely great, but I wish it were even bigger. I’m glad to see some newer players lately. I think the newer group pageants and the group arena games are great.

It feels like it would take just a few simple things to give this site more life. It is still new I feel, so maybe it’ll just take some time to get it right. Don’t worry about monetizing it right away - build your base and the $ will flow later. Also, I know players/users tend to complain about things sometimes, but there’s no pleasing everyone. Other game sites have these issues too. Sometimes a site has to just lay down the law and stick with it.

Aaaand, I’d like to add that on LWs front page, I’d like to see at least one full wolf pic whether it be our own or some other user of the month. I just see a couple of wolf heads. We need more art on the front page please!

I fall more and more in love with Lorwolf the longer time goes on ❤️

I think we’ve definitely experienced a slowdown compared to post-launch, but we’ve seen a new set of core (and social) users start to build and I’ve noticed a lot more excitement and activity coming back as a result that just keeps me even more hype. (I specify social only because I know a lot of us have been around for a while but weren’t necessarily super involved in art/forums/marketplace as much for a long time).

I also think the influx of new users has been really healthy for both a use for “beginner items” (now I have people who actually can make use of the the thousands of bone paste I have hoarded lol) but also getting fresh perspectives on the site. We’ve heard so much about “the new user experience” from people who haven’t been new users for years that it’s nice to get some fresh perspectives and be able to help them with the actual hurdles they’re facing instead of just speculating on how something would or wouldn’t affect them ☺️

As for the user-made experience, I really like that there’s a huge amount of freedom and flexibility because a lot of the content and activity is user-driven. Instead of just being a collector (and playing dress up with that collection), I’ve gotten to flex a lot of creative muscles that I don’t think I would have otherwise developed, especially with a full time corporate desk job. I still mostly see room for improvement in my art and writing, but I have had so much fun learning HTML, forum etiquette and how forum events work, digital art, and general lore-building. Not to say that that doesn’t happen on other sites bc it certainly can and does, but Lorwolf somehow inspires me in a way that other sites just haven’t 💖

All that said, despite what I see as one of the best core setups for a petsite, there are definitely some changes that I think would be SUPER helpful without having to overhaul the vibe of the game. The biggest being Recent Activity/Topics being easier to navigate in the forums. I want it to be much easier to find new activity in general so people can go to where the activity is and so new people can more easily find active but older threads. The other one would be just more frequent updates for the Custom Apparel Queue, though I understand the flurry of activity is somewhat unusual compared to the first half of 2025, so I’m optimistic that we’ll hit a more consistent routine as user-submissions become more consistent haha 🥰

Most of my other things I’d want are Quality of Life updates and bug fixes, which will come with time… and for the most part they’re annoying but don’t outweigh the positives so I don’t find them intolerable despite my complaints (they’re definitely the kind of thing that once they’re fixed I’ll never know I lived before that though hahaha, like searching endlessly for my wolves when trying to send or update them 😭 )

Also — I’m probably in the minority which is fine — but I like how many events we have right now. I LOVE the seasonal apparel so much, that I am pretty invested during the event itself. So the first month afterwards is kind of a nice break/cooldown period 😂 and then the second month afterwards can be slow, but it does give me a lot of time to work on other LW goals and also builds hype so I’m fully excited again when the next one rolls around.

I do like the special shops, but I don’t really perceive them as events when the only “activity” is spending money haha — but I do hope they keep coming back though!! Even if they don’t have new items every time, it would be nice to get like a fun recolor every year or something that would be a little easier to implement and keep up with.

It has a lot of promise as a concept! There is (was?) a huge audience for a decent pet sim that doesn't use AI slop, but the lack of communication (that seems to stem from a prideful refusal to engage with the community in a constructive way) hurts their potential a lot. I don't say that to be a hater, I'm still here & I will be 'til the lights get shut off. But, the site isn't in the state it's in on accident, the fact it can't pay its own bills & is not solvent as a business is a direct result of how the business is being run.
We get a lot of new users and keep very few of them longer than a few months, and what is really the incentive they have to invest in CA after they see that there is no dev activity, barring the 4 static events a year? Chapter 2 is still under development as far as we know, but "well, we haven't heard them say development is stalled or canceled so we have to assume it's still going" is... not very reassuring?

The community is, largely, wonderful-- has a problem with some toxic positivity at times, but I totally understand the impulse and the fear it stems from. There is a lot of uncertainty, but the place brings people joy, so they don't want to lose it. There are more user run events than ever, and that's nice to see! It's a shame all the onus is on the users to compensate for the fact we have no head Mod to engage with or to pass feedback back to the devs any longer, I believe that was very important since they don't seem to read anything themselves.

The site needs a lot of massive changes that wouldn't have been too late a year ago, but now I'm not really sure how they can accomplish what needs to be done without alienating the users they have left. The economy is inherently broken and has been since the beta, pebbles are worthless. Achievements helped buffer some of the moonstone drag for new players, but the site could stand to raise the shard cap or lower the price of extra dens (they have a sitewide refund system already set up if necessary, from back when they changed the mine cart and food slots to pebbles, but I don't know how much existing users would really care about a den price change even without it). Given the recent, ah, "activity" with new users having trouble understanding what goes into expanding their dens and how many moonstones it takes to get new tabs, this is definitely not an old user just guessing at what pinch points are for new ones. ;)

The breeding system is nice, I enjoy the challenge of 4 slots! The color ranges are nice, our existing breeds are cute. I am less satisfied with the rate of marking releases in the first couple years, since they are flat, single-color layer masks and don't require the dev time of complex, multi-layered and colored marking sets. We have sooo many natural animal marking patterns that we could have been getting shotgunned to us and could have lasted for years of content almost no matter how fast their releases were, and that is of course before we get into the limitless more fantastical patterns that would make great MS releases. I think that would have done a lot for the OG players' goodwill, cuz most of us love a good breeding project.

The battle system is also kinda novel, I enjoy we are at least still getting new synergy combos from the quarterly event companions even if we haven't seen a normal companion release in ages. Year round PVE arena would be an easy win, I have no idea why they want to push folks towards PVP arena when it just shines a light on how small the community is, but eh. It's not a massive deal, I just ignore it off-season.

Most of the professions are pretty well implemented. Not necessarily exciting, but they don't need to be; they just need to support the gameplay loop. Farming is the exception here, but I have no idea what purpose a mobile-style hurry-and-wait minigame is serving. It's not used as a predatory way to press micro-transactions here, yay-- but then why is that framework even used at all? Currently it's entirely redundant because cooking raw meat and fish is a more efficient use of the cooking pot than any complex recipe (wouldn't be the case if complex recipes gave you more than one finished item). It's true you don't have to even bother cooking nuts or carrots and they make wonderful dog fodder, but the cost of leveling farming to even get there vs the cost of just passively fishing does not add up at the moment.

I could go on forever, but I will end it there for now. I try to always offer routes forward or solutions with the things I don't think make any sense! :P Beautiful concept, baffling implementation and management, we'll see where it goes or if it keeps treading water for another year.

@Reave I’ve been referred to as toxically positive before. Maybe you’re referring to someone else, and I can’t speak to anyone’s motivations but my own, but since you did offer an explanation of the psyche of a “toxically positive” player I will offer my own motivations as plainly and bluntly as I can:

I enjoy the game. A lot. Like a lot. And I don’t care if anyone else enjoys the game and plays with me or not. I would be willing to and could afford to fund the site costs entirely on my own just to keep it alive for me and the 10 people I gab about LW nonstop with. I have ZERO fear this site will die. My biggest fear is actually that some of the sites worst, most aggressive users will come back if the site picks up steam again just to yuck other people’s yums (or try to manipulate the market to cash out). I’d rather have no one else on site than people only bitterly participating. (I say this generally, without meaning to implicate any specific person/people who has/have left).

I also don’t mind hearing negative feedback (other than the consistent presumption of other people’s motives and intentions), as long as it’s not harassing or inappropriately placed (like responding to a simple gameplay question with lengthy critical assessments of gameplay mechanics overall). In a feedback thread like this though, I don’t take any issue with any thoughts good or bad as long as they are honest and not making assumptions about people. And clearly I enjoy the conversation and hearing everyone’s takes in such contexts. 😊

And I know a lot of my takes are opinions some but not all or even most share, like not really wanting more events than we have now 🤷‍♀️ My feedback is just my feedback and not a comment on what others should or shouldn’t enjoy. I’m just glad I do enjoy what we have, bc I can empathize with the disappointment even if I don’t experience it.

I love the daily minor quests, it gives me a purpose to log on and do these various professions. Love filling them up and getting a little reward.

I think people are not realizing a pet site with only two people behind it has to just be smaller to begin with. Pixel Cat End has one singular guy doing everything, and it still has registration windows, but it gets plenty of love. This isn't an established game like Flight Rising, which had a larger team in the background working on the game alongside day jobs. I view this more closely to Mycena Cave, which has a focus on role playing and dressing up your cats with fun designs! I recall their events were pretty lore heavy, and text based, with simple games to go alongside it to earn money to buy the latest event item. At least here the events rotate instead of retiring so there's not a huge rush to get something.

As someone who is very busy with life, I like having limited events. Not as much FOMO or pressure to always be on getting the new thing. I think LW will always be a slower site, and at my point in life, that's preferred. Trying to grind out as many Festival Currency to buy stuff from Holiday Shops on Flight Rising was something I could do in previous years, but not very much anymore.

It's fine I guess. I feel like the creators aren't really into it, I don't want to invest too much time/money into a site that feels like it's one bad day away from being chucked in the bin.

Most days I still click on a few things, but there isn't much to get excited about day-to-day. I do love the wolves I have and I really, honestly hope this site gets more attention. I was so excited when this site was announced, and I still carry some of that hope.
