Generations?

Hello,

I am new here. I understand generations (G2 and such) in the wolves I am seeing, but does it matter at all in gameplay? Is a "Gen 1" wolf automatically better than a Gen 3 or so on? Does it play into breeding? Is there any reason to prefer a "Gen 1" over, say a Gen 4?

Just wondering out of curiosity!

It's mostly just a player demand thing! but with the smaller player base and more related woofs on the flea market, it is nice to have wolves you know aren't related to a ton of others if you're trying to set up a project

It mostly comes down to preference like Cinistello said. Breeding a low gen, say G4xG3, versus higher gen like G18xG20, G20xG37, etc. is easier in terms of tracing any inbreeding in the lineage (you can't breed a relative to relative within 5 Gens if I remember right) so people do tend to lean into low gens, even on other pet sites where the IB doesn't matter. Breed "purity" plays a role too, it's easier to see if your pup came from Xbreed instead of Xbreed and Ybreed. But if you don't mind the challenge of tracking down their ancestors then high gen works about as fine as low gen in regards of breeding and lineage.

As a lore based player I personally prefer WW/G1 or low gen for mysterious loners that wander in for no reason at all, but also enjoy tying in different bits of their family tree in if a woof is higher gen. Just preferences. ^^

Edit: Other people also enjoy building their own lineage from low gens and seeing how far they can get without IB so they lean towards foundation/WW. I've seen players from a different game who've got G50-60 without ruining their project.

G1 wolves aren't necessarily better, but they're easier to breed since you don't need to worry about them being related to any other wolves. Some players also enjoy have the completely empty Bloodline section, and, since wild wolves are randomly generated, getting one with really nice colors is rarer/feels more special. Not all players care about that though, so it's kinda up to personal preference! :)
