Interesting, it is probably a companion...but which? Here are my thoughts:

-Not sure. Maybe just hinting that the companion must have a mane. Like a Lunaria

My guess is.

“‘I have heard rumours! Of the key being in this pile of goldstones. Quick, I must hide it, so that I can be the one that wins this Trial! I shall decide what to do with the key! As the traitor!’” Mocks Silence, imitating a high pitched wolf.
Mercy chuckles, “So I shall leave this little clue,
This traitor, hidden within the abyss, has something they identify as. This thing is known for being quick witted, sly, and steals grapes sometimes!”
