Make the block function work

I'm kind of upset I have to make this suggestion at all, but I would really really appreciate if the blocking on LW actually functioned as a block.

When I block someone, which thankfully hasn't happened yet, I don't want them interacting or seeing my account AT ALL. They shouldn't be able to see my wolves, buy my listings (on FM and in the CA shop), view my forum posts in threads, or otherwise interact with anything directly related to me. Blocking users is a safety feature, and not having that safety or power to curate your own experience on the site WILL drive away users. I shouldn't have to make a new account if someone decides they don't like me/something I've done and starts harassing me by following me around in the forums, buying any of my wolf listings (and possibly renaming them horrible things), or otherwise making me feel uncomfortable.

The block function needs some SEVERE reworking, because just disabling messages and removing forum history between users is no where near enough. Time and time again people have been proven to make awful decisions and take awful actions against others. I'm sure that many of the older petsim (coughFRcough) players have experience with sour interactions, and I'm sure that more than a few have experienced harassment on petsites. Please fix the block function to make it functional.

Thankfully wolf names and descriptions are reportable, but yes, I would very much like blocked users to be unable to see my profile too, but them knowing they are blocked by certain users could open things up to harassment too, it's a hard call. :/

I'm definitely an older petsim player and have experienced severe harassment on other sites online, including one site that entirely lacked blocking features because users were expected to self police which… went about as well as you might expect, so I'm content just to have anything at all at this point.

I'd certainly not like my forum posts visible and profile, at bare min, at all and ideally, at best, hidden entirely from the users I've blocked and vice versa if other users have blocked me, but preventing them from buying wolves, listings, or apparel from me I'm more on the fence about as this creeps into affecting gameplay.

Right now, I think I'll sit neutral on these suggestions with a certain lean towards heavily supporting this, but I'm not sure how this could be best be seamlessly implemented on both sides

I thought this was an issue many players already voiced before official launch, I'm surprised it was not higher on the priorities. I know they have a lot on their plates right now but this is a safety thing, as you said.

I also would not want to have someone I blocked be able to buy my listings. Maybe a toggle feature in your settings that allows you choose. Either for each blocked user or as a whole.

I'm always hesitant when it comes to not allowing blocked users to see your posts. When this was very briefly a feature on Flight Rising, it meant I got pretty much instantaneously (literally within minutes) harassed for blocking someone before I even had time to calm down from the very stressful time that made me block them in the first place. It honestly freaked me out quite a bit. Considering it was removed shortly after, I doubt my case was an isolated one and that the visible block made people a lot more likely/faster to retaliate.

I understand its uses though and sometimes wish I could pick and choose on FR, so I would support a sort of tiered blocking system so you can pick and choose what interactions you want to disable with the user.

Blocking a person from messaging you or buying your stuff is okay. However, Lorwolf forums are a public internet space and not letting someone post or see something somewhere, in public, is something that could get dicey.

I'd be in favor of a tiered blocking system that only you as a player can see. It is very easy to just ignore someone you've blocked on a forum post, and pass it off as just not seeing the post. If the person you've blocked starts to further harrass you in public, then then it's a reportable offense, and the Mods can take care of it.

To that extent, I'd love some small indication of a ‘oh hey, you’ve blocked this user' visible to me only so I don't need to recall names.

Agreeing with Tserin and Synesthesia, Dappervolk's Block feature removing people's posts is one of the big reasons why I'm leaving the website. It literally makes me feel guilty for curating my own experience, and in worst case scenarios, can lead to harassment campaigns.

However, I agree that being able to buy Lorwolves, especially Pups, from Blocked users is a really, really, bad thing. This is almost certain to lead to revenge naming and releasing. That being said, if someone uses the block function “too liberally”, it will lead to a massive decline in profits with the models being suggested right now.

I think the best compromise is to make it so that blocked users can still buy CA, Harmless Flea Market items such as Materials, Moonstones, Companions, Pebbles, Etc., but block them buying specifically Lorwolves. After all, it's very hard to make a CA look bad on the wolf itself, and if they're being mean in the name/profile, you can just report them. Furthermore, there's no traceability for the other things I mentioned-It's not like the person who blocked User XYZ will know user XYZ bought their Companion, after all, and the person who sold it will enjoy the pebbles/moonstones.

I specifically mentioned CA shop being removed for users you've blocked because of FR's absolutely RAMPANT UMA flipping. I am sure I'm not the only person tired of flippers. I should be able to stop someone who is mass buying and reselling CAs at a much higher price than originally listed from seeing or purchasing my listings. I understand that as it is now, CAs cannot be listed on FM at all, but there have been dozens of suggestions to have them added and there's also nothing stopping someone from making a forum sales post or trading/selling via PM at a different, more inflated price.

I also find it kind of disheartening? For others to disagree. My playstyle and curation of my own experience comes first and foremost, especially when it comes down to another user who is harassing me/has a history of harassment. It is not a right to be able to buy my items, it is a privilege that can and should be able to be taken away. If you abuse me/other people, you don't deserve to have access to my things. I don't want someone who has been openly -ist on a different site, either towards me or someone else, to be able to buy my things, period. I don't want their money, and I especially don't want them owning my art or displaying it on their wolves.

I understand “harmless” listings like materials/companions/etc. still being available for the blocked user, but it also just doesn't sit right with me. Sure, there's the factor of anonymity to it (I can't see who bought it and still get the money in the end) but why should I have to be stuck paranoid? It also doesn't affect the other user at all if they don't see my 99 stack of bones on FM for the same price as the next 100 listings from 10 other users.

For the forums point, I get that there's always a drawback to removing posts/inserting “you are not allowed to view this user's post” text blocks instead, but i can personally say it stinks to see someone post in your forum thread over and over again because they didnt take the time to figure out they can't see your profile. Forums are public, sure, and people can be awful about being blocked, sure, but the point being brought up constantly is “you can just report it to the mods.” why does that not apply to harassment stemming from removed/"you cant see this" forum posts? It doesn't make sense to me.

I also realize retroactively that my posts sound harsh and aggressive, but I'm really not meaning it to be!! I'm very open to discussion and more than happy to change my mind when a valid point comes up, its just that so far other suggestions/solutions don't feel fair in my opinion. My opinion is that I shouldn't be the one punished or left paranoid or more uncomfortable if I decide to block someone.

I'm mostly in agreement with all of this and do think the blocking feature really needs to be upgraded to be more effective. Forum harassment and buying wolves around a block to do nasty things to them can be a serious problem.

However, I think a blocked player should still be able to see the replies of someone who's blocked them in the forums when it comes to sales and auctions, where there may be multiple offers flying around. Someone should not be excluded from out-offering or outbidding another user just because the other player has them blocked, if the seller or OP of the thread has not also blocked the user. This may not require pinging a reply from someone who has the player blocked, but they should still be given the ability to out-offer sans engagement if they want.

I could see a workaround that may exclude replies from being blocked in any relevant sales or trade forums, but perhaps allowing for blocks in other subforums where a player interacting with someone who blocked them would look more like intimidation.

When it comes by posts authored by a player who's blocked a user, that's a different story. That is a case where a player certainly shouldn't be allowed to ping, engage, or otherwise interact with the OP who has blocked them.

Coming in a bit late, but I'd like to show my support and also point out that I can receive pings from users I have blocked. This gives me a notification and everything.

I feel like this shouldn't happen, as, obviously I have them blocked, why would I want to get pinged by them? The post doesn't even show up for me, it just shows “You've blocked this user”, so I'd have to either unblock them or log out to see what they pinged me for.

The blocking system as it is feels really incomplete, and I hope the devs work on it soon, because as it is right now could lead to a lot of problems if left unchecked.

Oh this is terrible and can lead to so much harassment. This, at the very least, needs to be changed asap.
