Don't Level Lock Tool Use

So I bought myself a Lorium Pickaxe via the Mining Mayhem shop. Only to discover that I can't use it for another 8 mining levels.

It would be really nice if tool usage wasn't locked behind levels. Frankly, it just feels bad. And I think you should absolutely be able to buy tools you cannot yet make yourself and still use them.

Agreed, honestly. why allow us to sell tools at all, when it's cheaper to make our own for the level we're at, and we can't use higher level equipment? might as well make them account-bound at that point. please dont do that it was a hyperbole for effect

I have to disagree with this simply because these items aren't normally available for purchase and the materials themselves are actually level locked and could potentially cause massive coding headaches. Personally, if you don't have the levels for them, having them greyed out unless you're one level below makes more sense.

I have no problem with this.

But at the very least… why are the level requirements for pickaxes/wheels different? Could they be the same instead? I don't see why I can use mithril wheels but not the pickaxe. Some of the differences are huge!

@DawnQuest101

Personally, I feel like the items not normally being available for purchase is only a larger reason for them not to be level locked. It creates more incentive to spend vouchers on better tools that you can't normally access, and gives the Mining Mayhem more value! I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels like the weekly event shops are rather lackluster in what they offer, but I was excited when I saw the Mining Mayhem shop because it seemed like a really cool way to access tools I usually wouldn't be able to. Instead I was sorely disappointed and my interest in farming vouchers has dwindled completely now that it really doesn't provide me anything I value.

@Stellori
I didn't even notice that the level requirements were different! That seems really really odd.

@scribblescrumb Because there's an equally practical option they could have added for those that couldn't use the items now or in time for the events end and that's the recipes for the wheels and pickaxes. Like for me, buying the wheel would make sense because I already have the levels. I also the recipes. But the ore barely shows up and only through lots of sorting through do I even have that. The higher level recipes I've yet to see in Mole Market past silver and I stalk it fairly religiously.

I agree, even more so because the level locks seem very arbitrary and inconsistent. Gold is lv1, but chaosium lv 60 for the pickaxe and 40 for the wheel. By the time I reach lv40 I haven't even seen chaosium, let alone gathered enough of it to create a wheel. And why is there such a huge difference between the pickaxe and the wheel? All of this adds up to me rather not having that level limit at all. I feel it serves no purpose other than being annoying and confusing.

I don't really mind either way, but I would really like the levels equalized. It makes no sense to have a huge difference between level requirements for wheels and pickaxes of the same material.

Support, it would be nice to be able to craft or use items “above my skill” even if it had a fail chance or quality debuff similar to cooking. Would encourage users to buy and sell equipment more regularly in my opinion, and there's really not much trade going on other than cheap bulk of campaign grinding items and wolves.

Support. It could really help out the crafters, and it could really help out with people wanting recipes.
