Boost Profession Levelling/EXP gain--Fishing/Crafting/Mining

Definitely recognize that this is a bit of a Frankenstein of some other posts (which I'll link to below), so if it's still double-posting/problematic just lmk and I can take this down. I was also initially gonna make a more in-depth post, but I got lazy u=u

Would also love to hear other folks' thoughts on this as well, agree or disagree!

I've been playing pretty consistently for a little over a week (8 days) now and my profession levels are as follows:

  • Fishing - Lvl 6
  • Crafting - Lvl 6
  • Mining - Lvl 9
  • Hunting - Lvl 13
  • Cooking - Lvl 13

Definitely a pretty large level disparity between [Fishing/Crafting/Mining] vs [Hunting/Cooking].

For fishing, I will admit that I haven't been playing the minigame for it nearly as much since I don't have a dire need for the food/whatever resources it gives, and I quickly lose interest in clicking the occasional water ripple that pops up. Maybe I'll end up having a bigger issue with this later down the line if I start needing more clay/rarer trinkets for hunts or something, but for now, I don't care for my fishing level as much.

My biggest gripe is instead with Crafting and Mining. The leveling speed for these two feels far too slow--especially considering a big feature of this site is the customization of Lorwolves, and that the majority of F2P cosmetics are locked behind these two professions. Ofc one can choose to save up pebbles and buy them from the Flea market, but I personally enjoy the novelty of making my own.

Now, I'm not saying I have issues with having to grind--I've played my fair share of mmorpgs and such--If I need to make 20 Copper Cuff Earrings to reach the next level right now, so be it. What did grind my buttons a bit was finding out that making 1 Iron Cuff Earring gave exactly the same amount of Exp (+10 Exp) as making a Copper Cuff Earring, despite requiring +1 Bone paste and a much rarer resource.

**Also gonna mention that getting (+1 Exp) per Bone Paste makes me feel sad as well :(

I'm hoping that this isn't the same for the rarer metal recipes, but if it is, that Exp requirement between levels is only gonna get larger. It also doesn't help that the apparel recipe unlocks for each Crafting level “Tier” are really just recolors of what's already available (prolly another conversation for another time, but dw, I do also understand that the site's still new)

It's just, crafting only Copper Cuff Earrings all the way up to Lv. 30 so I can make the one more unique/interesting recipe I've seen so far sounds very.. meh to say the least.

As for Mining, I feel like I've been mining as consistently as I hunt and cook and simply have the expectation that it would at least be at or closer to the same level as the other two. I think the Exp gain here gets stalled since you have to manually click twice to travel, and wait for your wolf to mine/smelt ores.

That's all I have atm, this post ended up being way longer than I thought o=o" (probably longer than it needed to be as well) but thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings o7

I am not sure if simply increasing the exp to level up faster will solve the issues that the professions have in terms of imbalance and potential improvement. Especially for fishing, there is such a huge gap between unlocking new areas, and in between absolutely nothing happens. I think if each level you gained actually brought some sort of advantage (like with cooking you cooking speed increases with each level) and every couple of levels (like 5) you gain a little bigger advantage (for example specifically for fishing, an extra ripple per fishing trip), the wait between levels is a. less boring, and b. takes less long cause the advantages you gain over time actually add up into being able to earn xp quicker.

Personally I think those kind of improvements to all professions would be a better alternative than simply cranking up the exp gain. Because then, when you reach max level quicker.. And there is nothing to gain anymore, the imbalance still persists.

The reason Mining has a big disparaty is probably because you can only smelt ore (and thus earn xp) if you have a multitude of 5, which often isn't the case. I think if a. there's less variety in ores to find in each level, and b. you drop unsmelted ore off at the furnace, and don't hog your limited spaced cart with it on your next trip, a lot of that disparaty will disappear.

As for crafting; I'm not sure. The fact that you constantly need bone paste for pretty much anything, and the ease with which one can get bones, I'm not sure if cranking up the xp gained from that is gonna do anything other than making someone max out faster. Sometimes getting to the end point quicker isn;t everything. And especially considering that leveling up in crafting doesn't do much, I don't really see the need to level up quicker. (Yeah it unlocks recipes, but I think at this point I've already passed the level required to unlock everything). In terms of balancing the exp gain (so that a rarer recipe requiring more and rarer ingredients, and probably taking longer to craft as well, gains you more xp) yeah I'm all for balancing.

(I made a huge suggestion about balancing and improvements in professions btw. It's still a bit of a WIP, and it's hiding somewhere in the oblivion of the suggestion forum)
