WWs generating with breeding-only genes

Idea from discussion in the discord

What if WWs occassionally generated with otherwise unobtainable genes that can be passed down through breeding but cannot be bought?

That addresses a few issues the game has presently

  • breeding currently serves very little benefit over just buying genes for nice enough WWs
  • as we reach higher digits it's less and less worth sprinkling any wolf WW or otherwise
  • There is currently no reason to sprinkle a G2+ wolf at all
  • There is close to no reason to use the stud system and will only be less as braccs become more common
  • Wolves feel very interchangeable at the moment

You could still buy a WW with those genes and sprinkle until you like, so WWs aren't locked out of breeding-only genes, and people can easily obtain a G2+ wolf with that gene in colors they like with a bit of effort so both WW hunters and breeders benefit from this

Potentially these could also be clan-specific to facilitate player trade some more

Could be neat, could be fun, could make both WW hunting and breeding projects more meaningful

Breeding only genes Could theoretically be a rare mutation instead, but considering how strong the ww hoarding is in the community, i think those people would riot

No support. Beyond Bracchus, I don’t think there should be any exclusive genes by breeding or otherwise.

I actually do use the stud system. It’s helpful for finding specific colors so I’m not constantly breeding in house. I actually had a bracchus stud not sell recently! It’s absolutely more just preference in which wolves are wanted for breeding, and the costs.

Breeding also gets you free puppies to level and release, so there is a use for breeding pups still.

I also do see reason to besprinkle some Gen 2’s. Had an ugly Volmyr I sprinkled so they weren’t ugly and I could keep them.

No support for anything breeding exclusive, however I could support items that can be applied to any wolf that are generated by breeding.

No support. By doing so you lock all previously existing wolves out of that pattern. And what if that gene would be perfect on a wolf that I already had prior to the gene's release? That'd force me to have it forever imperfect because there is no gene scroll that I can use to change it. Additionally, adding something exclusive to wild wolves when the perceived value gap between wild wolves and bred wolves is in many eyes already too large is just throwing oil onto a fire.

I think with them adding simply new (and readily obtainable) genes and breeds to the game, the desire to breed or have more wolves will already increase very naturally. I'll admit the game started out with relatively few breeds and genes, and with the short cooldowns that caused the market and dens to soon be overpopulated, but adding all sorts of exclusivity is not going to help imo, and rather add new problems.

I do find that if there aren't things to be gained solely through a gameplay element, that gameplay element becomes worthless to people quickly

currently people often treat g2+ and bred wolves [or gods forbid g2+ bred wolves] the same as people treat basic on fr and that's just no good. I understand being upset you can't get Everything on Every wolf but imo, you shouldn't be able to?

Like, genuinely. It flattens the game so much to me when you can just go buy some ms/sell some ca and get everything in existence without Ever interacting with another player or many game mechanics. Once I sell a few more CA and buy all the breed changes/genes i want the game will be 100%'d as far as i'm concerned.

That's not good. that's Really Boring.

This game is already Very Generous with letting you fully customize your progens. This results in all popular color schemes being in the game with zero effort. So breeding projects are kind of almost null because chances are there's like 5 of a similar enough wolf in existence.

WWs are G1, those are always desirable, but every bred wolf is fully interchangeable unless you are a lore player or doing a challenge.

there Needs to be Something G2+ wolves have that's for them alone. otherwise the game is solved on launch.

I don’t have the link handy but I’m pretty surely this was covered in a previous thread of yours with the same idea. I’m all for giving more value to breeding but exclusive genes isn’t it.

Support, wild wolves really need more than just "unbred ugly wolf".
We will only see them be less and less worthwhile to hunt if they stay the way they are.

Full support for breeding exclusivity! Adds so much variety to ww’s thats sorely lacking rn
