I'm willing to be wrong on this being a bug, but I've played the arena enough to know that companions are usually set to one color, to make combining easier. But recently I have seen all five Orthus colors in the arena. Even getting four of them in one game.
EDIT: They all have the exact same synergies and moveset

I've played lots of arena and usually find different recolor of the same familiar! Especially the deers. Everytime I select the green deer then oh no I get only the purple one x')

Yeah I was just discussing it with my discord group. I think the deer are the only ones I've seen with both colors, I just haven't gotten them in my pools recently.
I'm fine with some recolors but I don't know if they meant for all five to be in there when most are just one or two of their colors lmao

I definitely get what you mean tho, it's annoying when there are recolors and you can't roll the version you need to progress in the arena. I wish they all counted for the same familiar ngl

I think the deer is the only other companion with a recolor in and they both have different movesets. there should not be all 5 recolors in unless they're significantly different imo (haven't played a game yet to check)

Confirming that the brother perth and brother tavon deers have different synergies and movesets and therefore, in terms of battle abilities share absolutely nothing with one another and should not be considered simply colour variations. That's also why the enderlings all show up. Technically they belong to the same family, but they all have different synergies and abilities. For all other companions, the recolours are exact copies of each other in terms of synergies, stats and movesets. And I believe as a result, it is only hindering if both recolours showed up, considering they can't stack. I'd definitely view it as a bug, and if it is intentional, I'd suggest changing it. Either make their abilities different so that all of them showing up isn't an issue, or only make 1 of the 5 colours show up in the arena.

Thank you for the clarification! I remember seeing both deer but I definitely haven't seen or used them enough in my builds to remember if they were different or simply recolors.
And the enderlings I definitely didn't count since they have different synergies and even poses.
