KS Backers/ Closed Beta Tester Should have gotten 1st Refferal Rewards without need to Reffer another player

I was not a KS Backer, nor I participated in Closed Beta, but I think that just would be fair that those players that are should have had gotten their first 100x Moonwater and Refferal Companion Reward as a freebie, since they can hardly pinpoit a clear person that got them into the game; maybe they heard it word of mouth, maybe they liked to browse Kickstarter and saw a project to invest to, who knows anymore, it's not like it has been only been two weeks that this game existed.

"But they already got their KS rewards" Yes but every KS has rewards for their backers (or should have) and the Refferal system is completely different breed.
It's juts, who are they going to put down as a refferal? Themselves?

I think while this would be a nice idea, ultimately not everyone is referred by someone else - you can still stumble on the game by accident without actually hearing about it from someone else, or being specifically referred by someone else. I heard about LW by someone posting their wolf on a totally unrelated discord sub and then I googled the website - I wouldn't even know what their discord name was, let alone their LW name.

I think the devs have already done more than enough to try and make this fair (which even then has had backlash), and at some point the referral system just needs to be left alone.

Yes, but I am talking about KS Backers/Closed Beta testers, not your 'average player' that came after. If a KS Backer/Closed Beta account could have had that space for filling up the name of a player that got them into the name filled by, I don't know, "Lorwolf Dev Team" or something, and automatically got the first reward, because we can safely assume majority of the players technically reffered themselves to the game or happened upon it by cirumstance.

Average player that came AFTER the Closed Beta would have had the option still open to fill out, and whether you chose to put down an other player's ID number down to get the reward or not, that is then entirely on you.

We could then of course discuss if the refferal system was needed or not- and any steps made by the dev team to make it 'fair' were steps taken to douse the fire the decision to make the system in the first place caused- but I have not came here to cause discourse over my disagreements on what choices the Dev makes, I came here to make suggestion.

KS backers have solved this ourselves by getting together in small groups or pairs and putting each other as our referrers.

Since you need at least 3 referrals to unlock companions and you need a max of 5, being able to refer each other has helped us in more ways than just getting that first companion unlocked. The early update to the initial release made this possible.

Most of the alpha and beta testers have maintained contact and know each other so finding referrers in the group was not that difficult.

If anyone is still looking for referrers, Discord has others looking too!

One thing I find differentiates LW from other petsim games is that the Devs are open to feedback, they listen attentively, and when they see a clear need to make a change they do so - and often relatively quickly compared to other games which I have seen take weeks, months, even years to respond to player feedback.

It has been this way since early testing and I am glad to see their responsiveness and openness continue. Have they addressed everything? No, but they are a small team, and they are communicative, so I can give them in return some patience and a little grace.

It saddens me to see others take a more cynical view of a comparatively responsive and flexible Dev team, but it is what it is. Poor experiences in other virtual games can certainly predispose customers to enter new games with some wariness and justifiable concerns, so it does take time to build trust.
