Price of Moonstone Shards

Just generally curious, because it seems to be a consistent thing. Are people actually buying MS Shards at a higher cost than 1 MS?

there are currently two listings for shards:

1:4.4kp & 1:4,750p (10 shards at 4.50kp is 45,000 pebbles for a MS.)

Meanwhile, we have MS listings at 1:37,000

It really does not seem like we should be selling shards at a higher price than a full Moonstone. My only conclusion is people need like 1 or two shards for another MS, and if you’re spending pebbles anyway, the inflated handful of shards is cheaper than a full Moonstone. But even then, you can easily get a shard just doing some profession work for a minute.

I don’t know, just some thoughts I wanted to get out there. If people are buying them, then that’s reason enough I suppose. I just personally wouldn’t value a shard more than 1/10th the price of a MS.

They do but only because of the achievement that requires you to craft them (which caps at 500). I'm not sure how active the shard market is now that a decent chunk of achievement hunting has gone down, but it may still be decent.

I always always sell mine at 3,500 pebbles each, which would make a ms worth 35,000. It's typically a lot more expensive than what I see, but it sells so quickly (I guess according to your rate findings it's not that bad, but i still sold even when the rate was 1ms:15,000p).

I remember once I listed 30 shards, then went back 5 minutes later to cancel so I could make moonstones, but they had already all sold by then lol

I don't really understand why people are buying shards at such a high price but, hey, it sells so I'm gonna continue listing them as such lol. It helps make a ton of extra pebbles on the side

a few months ago I accidently set ten listings for 1 shard for 50,000 pebbles instead of 5,000 and 6 sold before I could take down the listing. Im not sure if people are even reading the prices lol

It is actually quite common in gaming economies that the sum of individual parts of a non-difficult recipe cost more than the final product. Not sure if you play Flight Rising, but look at baldwin ingredients there - they cost more than the final products sell for. It is a supply and demand thing. Perhaps people are able to afford a shard every now and then, but not an entire moonstone. Perhaps they only need 1 more shard to craft the last moonstone they need, so it is cheaper for them to buy that shard rather than a moonstone.

It is a free market so if you do not feel it worth it to buy a shard, don't. But since they are selling, there must be a market (e.g. demand) for it.. If nobody was buying them, I'm sure soon enough the listings would stop as well, because it wouldn't be worth the hassle relisting them constantly.
