Tips for catching WW?

I've come across at least 3 WW and they all ran away... So are there any strategies? Should my wolf be a certain level, should I travel in a party of more than one wolf, what?

I know that stinks when that happens, but at least you get a knucklebone token. When you get 50 of them, you can take your wolf hunting and find a ww. ^^
