How to think while breeding?

I have an issue with the color purple, it's my least favorite color and almost every time I breed (even breeding two wolves without purple) they'll have purple offspring x) I keep around a few purpled ones and it looks good in some but I generally try to avoid it.

I don't like purple but purple likes me?

I'd die for green, everything would be a keeper if I had that "problem" xD

Have you tried using the demo? You can save wolves there and preview their offspring to see their color ranges. So although you breed wolves that don't have purple, their ranges probably run through that color portion of the wheel.

I love purple, but I get it a lot too which makes breeding certain pairs a lot less interesting. Even in my current projects I get a lot of purples. They skip all the other colors I need and go straight to purple. xD

Be very careful when previewing offspring of existing wolves since it tends to change its mind when it comes to knowing if the parents are related or not. I've made that very expensive mistake quite a few times now.

Sounds like a bug though?

@Glitteryarn

An extremely damaging and expensive bug, I've gotta say! A whole lot of my direwolf breeding plans have to be re-done because the game decides that they were related once I got to breeding them.

I, too, get a lot of purple wolves when trying to breed some nice red-black-and-white ones. The color wheel's arrangement can really bite you in the tail sometimes. :')

@Fangs - I found out that if I changed any of my wolves' genes or breed or anything and saved that version of them that it would essentially create a hypothetical wolf without any regard to their bloodline. I used to have a lot of issues with the puppy predictor, but now I just upload the IDs and save the wolf immediately to preview the offspring eligibility and haven't had any issues since.

But yeah, RIP to the MS and pebbles I sank into wolves I couldn't use. . .

@GraveGuardian

You know, I figured that's what was going on, but I always check if they're related with the same Demo before buying and applying genes, so it makes little sense how it could decide that they're related when it comes to actually breeding them.
