Tips for Newbies(New Ideas Welcome!)

Welcome to Lorwolf! We are pleased to see you here and have worked together to compile a list of information we think new players should know. This ranges from information about the site itself to helpful tips that will make your play time here more enjoyable. (And sometimes more profitable. lol) Some tips are expanded on below in the comment section. Feel free to peruse, and also don't hesitate to post questions you may have below!

Wolves and Den

-check and manage your autofeed!! Don't let your freshly purchased Cooking Camp milk to be drained by your greedy dogs...

-Mass sell items to vendor in your inventory! Candles and green succulents are good sell items.

-Stay away from nana until you have more den space and wolves.

-A good ratio for companions is 2-one hour companions:1 Basido (The green one) to have it pay for itself and passively level your dogs. Recommend setting this up once you have a few level 10 wolves.

Combat

-Combat plays itself out automatically. Your job is to set up a winning team by utilizing synergies and abilities in various ways. Synergy Guide

Farming

Crafting

Mining

Fishing

Cooking

-Early on, you're going to want to focus on cooking raw fish and meat as you get it to provide yourself stamina. Complex recipes are not worth your time as they provide minimally more stamina and take twice as long.

Hunting

Campaign

-Attach Companions to your wolves! They don't use energy and help in Combat.

-You can complete all four Campaign quests. However, don't feel pressured too get through them very quickly. Only chapter 1 is released and there is no ETA on chapter 2. Enjoy it!

Gauntlet

-Stay away from Gauntlet until you have 5 level 10 wolves/companions and are familiar with synergies.

Arena

Mole Market

-Claim free items from Mole Market every 6 hours, for four freebies a day!

Pageant

Currency

-Moonstones can be obtained by completing achievements

Custom Apparel

Flea Market

Forums

-Want to keep up with a thread? You can be notified of new activity to any thread by clicking Subscribe on the right hand side (PC) or at the bottom (mobile).

-There are lots of helpful people in the forums! Be sure to check out the user giveaways and introduce yourself. Older players want you to succeed.

Achievements

-Check out Achievements under the Den tab for goals and goodies!

And we can add other categories of course. So what is some information you wish someone had told you when you first started the game?

This is a nice idea!

I wish someone had told me about the Den Achievements earlier. I just happened upon it by chance. I guess the good part was that I had accumulated a lot of moonstones all at once, so that was nice. It would have been nice to see goals to achieve earlier though so I didn’t repeat stuff that I had maxed out.

Also, I wish I had learned earlier that you can sell items via your inventory to the vendor. I discovered this more recently too. It’s a nice way to earn pebbles or sell them for moonstones in the flea market. Once again, discovering it late made me accumulate a lot so that part is good.

Also, this is just more of a general suggestion, but I’d really like to see a full bodied wolf on LWs front page - maybe like a wolf spotlight like DV has. It could fit above or below the merch ad. Also, some recent forum topics might be nice to see there.

@Wolfster I have added your suggestions. :) I agree with your general suggestion. It would be nice to have more introductory content on the front page in general. Maybe Alaunis will see this and agree.

One of the most materially useful tips for newbies-- especially early on-- is to not stress over cooking too much despite how pinched & stingy stamina is going to feel for a hot minute. It's a waste of time/slots to cook anything but raw meat/fish still, the nut feast is the only one even-to-positive for slots/time (and requires heavy investment into farming) and still not worth it vs the time taken to cook them compared to raw meat/fish. Cook the complex recipes because you want to unlock them, or because they are needed for the farming npc, or just because they are fun for you, but otherwise you are better off just leveling farming to farm nuts/carrots to feed to the dogs raw & utilizing fishing's npc to feed the dogs the rest of the time.

The second most useful tip for newbies is that, once they are finally level 10, 2 one-hour cooldown companions for every 1 Basido/frog equipped to a wolf will allow you to passively level dogs (for use or release), which will vastly free up your time and stamina requirements that are going to feel strangely harsh for the first week or so. The best thing to do is grab a few early on and don't utilize nana at all for a little bit, so you can build up an initial buffer of pebbles. The stamina thing WILL get better as you open more den slots / get more dogs-- and, crucially, after you complete the campaign, so you aren't feeling the pressure to get back to grinding as fast as possible.

The third tip is that there is really no point to grind the campaign story as quickly as possible. It is currently in a hurry-up-and-wait state. What exists is cute, but we currently intentionally have no communication from the devs or owners. Just take it easy, you are not missing anything.

Fourth I suppose is that this is very much a game where you have to find your own fun, because it will not be provided for you past the quarterly events 4x a year. Try to pick some long term goal, whether it's breeding projects or another challenging hobby like G1/WW collecting. The former can be difficult because since launch we've only gotten a couple pattern/marking releases, but another aspect of breeding project challenges can be trying to "future proof" them for patterns and markings you'd like to see released in the future. Sometime. Hopefully. :P

Based on the thread from SushiDog... another tip could be: You can only receive Wild Wolves from Campaign if you have an empty den slot.

I don't know that i would say this is a game where you have to make your own fun for newbies as a tip. I'm sorry, but there is so much to offer on this game that already exists and if that isn't fun starting out as a new player, it probably isn't the game for that newbie.

Maybe we can also start a separate set of tips for people who have been around a while and aren't finding fun things to do anymore though 🤷‍♀️

@lalierre

I wasn't trying to exclude what other's were contributing, but I admit I was thinking about the same. ^^'

I am going to remove your fourth tip from the main page. Of course feel free to leave your post as is. I think there is enough content starting off to hook new players, but I do understand your frustrations with the lack of communication from the devs. There are lots of existing threads for discussion on that aspect that new players could discover on their own or be linked to in the future. If it feels dishonest to you, I think what you post on newbie introduction posts have been fine. There is more ongoing discussion involved there. Attaching a PSA tag to it was solely my decision, and I apologize for giving you a negative spot light like that. It wasn't my intention; I do things sometimes to include others that comes off like sandpaper.
