Yeah, the devs are (implicitly) not interested in feedback from the playerbase, which caused a lot of problems early on. They don't really read the forums, the suggestions thread appears to be a trash can in place so users don't bother them, it's a whole unfortunate thing. :P If you don't expect the faster-paced updates of most new pet sites, and if you can make your own fun, it's a pretty good way to while away an evening! I enjoy it, even if I won't sugar-coat the state of things to new players.
The stamina system is more approachable than FR's for sure; there is not much point to the complex recipes yet, since they don't give out more than one item per craft. You will get more stamina per minute -- and more importantly per cooking slot used-- just cooking raw fish and meat and ignoring everything else unless you want to cook the blue-rarity recipes to feed the farmer NPCs.
Farming is... fine at higher levels, when you unlock carrots and nuts, which are worthwhile to feed to the dogs raw. I don't love the mobile-game-esque timers involved in it, so I largely don't bother since meat and fish are perfectly adequate for the amount of stamina I use, which is not much per day.
If you attach a basidio to a wolf it will level it up, and attaching two more pebble companions to other wolves for each frog will offset the cost of playing with Nana. That's a decent way to make pebbles and moonstones-- the other pebble companions are just there so Nana won't rip you off too bad, and when a wolf hits level 10, you can release it for a knucklebone token. 50 get you a wild wolf hunt, a way to generate "gen 1" wolves with no parents. The better way to make money is, like with FR selling eggs, selling the KB tokens to other folks that want to play the gacha gamble. WW's don't sell for a lot unless you get lucky, which you are also familiar with because of FR. This is probably exacerbated because we haven't gotten den expansions in.... years? Since the game launched? That's a common thread you'll find here, lol.
But may as well enjoy! There's enough here to have a good time as long as you're self-motivated by breeding projects or achievements. If you get bored, it's also like you said-- the dogs don't lose stamina if you take a vacation. They'll be here whenever you want.
