Which Can I Beat First: The Icerun Seasonal OR A Game?

So... is this silly? Yes! But the seasonals are kinda monotonous and don't really need much attention, so I think it'd be kinda easy to play a game and have a Seasonal running in the background.

For this, I'll be saying I beat the Icerun Seasonal when I finish the level thingies, and that I beat the game when I get to the credits. I, as of now, actually haven't finished the challenge and will be keeping track of my progress here.

I'll be doing this in 'sessions', with each session starting when the game finishes loading shaders and lets me start moving and ending when my chosen device for the game tells me I'm at 10% battery.

With that out of the way... time to get some stuff out of the way with where I am for the Seasonal and introduce the game I'll be playing!

The Seasonal

I'm starting with some of the early Seasonal levels complete, since I was rushing to get the Antique Gold set (which I now have). This gives it a minor leg up in the competition, but I'm still kinda on the side of me finishing the game first.

I am currently at 38/415 completed activities. I may also be adding a secondary goal where I get absolutely everything I can that's unique to the Seasonal (in which I'd be at 0/7 Icerun consumed companions, 0/2 event companions, 0/2 forum stuff, and 3/27 unique apparel pieces), or even making it part of the 'complete-the-Seasonal' requirements, but I'm not sure. Depends on whether I think the Seasonal's at an advantage or not.

The Game

Do any of you know Spirit of the North (asides from my continuous mentions of it)?

No? Well, now you do because for the game I'll be playing Spirit of the North 2! Starting with a new game and therefore starting with nothing but my knowledge of stuff. Which is a lot, considering I have another file that I've pretty much 100%ed. I'm going into this with a very clear strategy, though, and I'm hoping that'll make all the difference.

I am currently at actually starting the game and creating a new save file.

Session Posts

None, so far!

Session 0: Let's Talk Strategy

This is mostly for the SOTN2 side of things, as my strategy for the Seasonal is simple: if there are three or more Arena activities do that, otherwise campaign.

For SOTN2, though, my strategy is- wait I'm gonna need to explain some things first. Basically, you have to find Wisps scattered around the map, sometimes hidden behind puzzles, in order to open dungeons. In most dungeons there's a Relic at the end, which you use to open the final dungeon of each region and progress to the next. You can also gain equippable Runes that give you skills and abilities (with some activating when certain conditions are met and others needing to be triggered), although using most of them requires Spirit Energy (basically mana; it recharges over time). In all final dungeons except for the last one you get a new Rune that'll be required for future puzzles near the start.

There's also Another Thing which has to do with the final dungeons, but I'm keeping that a secret until we reach the last one.

You can also find Skill Points around the place, which let you unlock various skills on the Skill Tree.

Well, my strategy for this is simple: prioritize getting Wisps and Skill Points, and a few different runes to make my life easier. For the skill tree, I'm going to focus on unlocking the upgrades that let me carry more Wisps at one time first (I need to unlock at least two of those, later dungeons require five Wisps to open), along with the ones that lower the prices of shops, then Spirit Energy and Health (the more the better). Finally I'll focus on the fall damage reduction and glide time ones.

I'll try and get as many Skill Points as I can in each region before proceeding to the final dungeon of that region, although I'll sometimes need to backtrack for specific ones.

I also do have a list of Runes I'm going to get alongside the required ones... And, wait, this is just most of them!

  • Feather Fall Rune (Uses spirit energy to prevent fall damage)
  • Bright Heart Rune (Uses spirit energy to repel Red Death fog- incredibly useful for puzzles that require you to push balls around since they deal fog damage)
  • Spirit Jump Rune (Lets you jump again midair for as long as you have the required Spirit Energy)
  • Rune of Éona (respawn statues grant 2 Armor after healing you to full)
  • Storm Cloak Rune (Lightning restores Spirit Energy. Also reduces damage from lightning)
  • Flame Cloak Rune (Reduces fire damage and burn duration)
  • Thorn Walker Rune (Uses Spirit Energy to prevent damage when walking on or being hit by thorns)
  • Rune of the Drowned (Lets you sink instead of swim. If you're underwater without any Spirit Energy, you instead take damage. One of my favorite runes)
  • Spirit Sprint Rune (Lets you double-tap the sprint button to sprint even faster in exchange for Spirit Energy. How else am I going to outpace the Seasonal?)
  • Lava Walker Rune (Reduces damage from walking on lava and slightly reduces burn duration when on fire)
  • Water Rune (Lets you jump in water, swim much faster, and have water geysers restore Spirit Energy. Can be comboed with Rune of the Drowned, in its own way)
  • Rune of Aetlyena (Recovers Spirit Energy faster)
  • Wisp Seeker Rune (Acts as a Wisp dowsing rod)
  • Rune of Suffering (When health is critically low- at 1-2 points left- Spirit Energy recovers rapidly. And I mean RAPIDLY)

I'm not sure which to vote for, since as of right now I'm already finished with level 7 and about a quarter of the way through 8, but this game seems fun. does it have cute things?
