Befriending Wild Wolves

Would anyone be able to explain how befriending wild wolves works? I've come across 8 of them now and each one has failed. In my inventory the tokens say "collect enough of these and you may be able to befriend a wild wolf". Is that how you befriend them? If so how many do I need before I can befriend one?

Not long ago, I asked this question too! In explore, you have a random chance of succeeding. So you're not doing anything wrong. The knucklebones are for hunting quests for wild wolves which will show up when you have enough knucklebones, and a hunt costs 50 knucklebones and is guaranteed to get you a ww.

you also need 20kp for the WW hunting quest if I'm not mistaken, and somewhere it said there was a 5% chance of befriending the WW.
