The purpose of mining?

This might be a silly question, but I guess I just don't understand the overall point of mining?

I know we can make some cosmetic apparel from the ore and different tiers are different colors. And we get the occasional moonstone ore which is melted down into a shard, but I assume these count towards the 25 daily limit and I get way more way easier and less irritating lol.

Anyway, this is a genuine question because I feel like I am missing something. What is the overall point of mining outside of the cosmetics? And occasional shard that other professions give?

If the ore doesn't count towards the daily limit, than I take that back and would appreciate any insight on this, thank you!

@Coop7011 AFAIK the moonstone ore you can find does count towards the daily limit, and apart from the apparel you've already mentioned you mine to get the ores to craft into better equipment for mining, so there isn't really thát much purpose to it. Something that I do hope they'll change/improve soon.

A couple other reasons to mine I can think of though are the following:

  • at a certain high level in mining, in the campaign in a specific area a new scenario will unlock, which will result in a companion you can only get via that method
  • mining is one of the things to do in the daily activities to earn pebbles (one of the few ways to earn pebbles btw, apart from vendorselling)
  • about once every six weeks there will be a mining event, much like the hunting event we currently have, where mining will earn you tickets, and those tickets allow you to purchase unique items in a special shop that unlocks only for that week

These reasons have nothing to do with the usefulness of the ores, but as I said before, I agree there's relatively little use for it.

Sorry about the ping, I tried to find more info on this, but had no luck, so I figured I'd ask if you could point me to a guide? @gaia

Does this relate to the lv20 mining area in campaign or is there something else? :o

@Peyp No worries, always free to ping! :) But now you have me confused; there is a lv20 mining area in the campaign? Can you point me to it? I've long passed lv20 but I haven't seen anything of the sort.

I myself was referring to the Southmarsh Area in the Murkwood Campaign (the third area in that region). If you click it (Campaign (lorwolf.com)) you'll see in the possible scenarios at the bottom of the screen you'll see that at lv35 of mining you unlock a new scenario called Mining: Rockbreaker Ox. Something similar happens for fishing lv35 in the Icerun campaign. That one is related to the stork companion.

Thank you for the info, @Gaia!

There is a lv20 mining requirement encounter in Barboa's Slough in the Murkwood Campaign, which was providing mithril (and lots of silver) for my wheels and pickaxes.

I didn't see the lv35 one, but I didn't get the mining quite so high yet. Looking forward to more companions now. :D
