Alternative Battling/Manual Battles

A reoccurring struggle I've been having with the gameplay is that I find explore and gauntlet battles completely unengaging due to being auto battles. I find myself looking away from the battle entirely because I find it so dull to watch and it being completely out of my hands. It leaves me bored and almost unwilling to do the gauntlet tasks when they show up because I know that I don't enjoy it.

So my suggestion is this, a toggle to swap between an auto battle and manual battle to give a little more control to the player for battles, even something as selecting a target to be attacked would work in my mind because I'm actively contributing to the fight as opposed to sitting back and playing a different game on my phone while the gauntlet happens. Having manual battles might also allow the implementation of a more strategic fight in the story mode campaigns where you have to take down a certain enemy first to either stop the boss from healing or shielding, which might end up being frustrating to do in an auto battle where you don't have control over the attack target.

Being a toggle would also probably appease both people like me who'd like a little more engagement with the battle system and those who already enjoy the auto battle system for what it is.

I don't have any opinions on manual battling but just in case you didn't know, battling in any part of the game (campaign/gauntlet) is predetermined as soon as you start it. The actual visuals of the battle don't really matter. You can refresh the page as soon as you start the battle and still get the rewards/move forward in the gauntlet. I believe this is the same for the arena as well. When I'm running the campaign I keep one of my hands on f5 to go as quickly as possible.

If you already knew that, then I apologize

@Bloomed

The problem with that for me is that I want to be actively engaged with the battles, not just to skip through them. The problem with auto battles for me is that I do not find them engaging. I enjoy being a part of combat in games, the battles here are not like that. I would like to be a part of the combat in this game.

And yeah I figured that out when I accidentally skipped the final enemy for the chapter 1 darkspine campaign when I actually wanted to fight it but the battle froze.

I apologize if this comes off as a bit strange but you're basically verbalizing the problem I face (which is that battles are predetermined and that I do not get to engage with them)

I agree with you here! It's basically just another part of the game that feels like an idle game, not anything truly meant to be engaging. Though, frankly, plenty of idle games manage to feel engaging because they have a lot of progression baked into them that Lorwolf lacks. The fact that i can just refresh and skip a battle feels a bit sad to me, it ends up feeling like there's very little reason to even have the whole battle visualizer. You could argue that it's helpful for seeing how your team works and where it's lacking; but the majority of the time you've already got a set team. I'd love to actually strategize what moves my team uses, when they use them, and who they use them on.

I think this being a toggle would be great, but Im wondering how exactly it would work? given that battle outcomes are determined the second they start, i guess my brain is struggling to figure out a way that both auto and manual would work unless they're coded totally differently; which i guess would have to be the case.

I'd be down to see it kinda sectioned off i guess? with stuff like gauntlet being manual and campaign being auto. regardless i support for the people who want manual even though I dont fit into the category. just wondering how plausible it is at all

It's extremely unlikely since the game went live like this after multiple years of production, but i would honestly prefer the entire system was scrapped and redone so as to not be predetermined- or if it is, i would rather just completely skip the visual aspect because all it does is waste my time. While refreshing the page does skip the animation, i feel that this is an unintended quirk of how the game works due to bring predetermined, and not an anticipated QoL allowance.

As it stands, combat is probably my least favorite part of the site right now. it's dull, repetetive, and only minimally rewarding per fight. Making them predetermined also makes watching the animation frankly annoying for me personally, because i can imagine myself making active choices such as not leaving an enemy alive with a sliver of health because my last-moving wolf decided to attack some completely random other target who has full HP. I wouldn't do that as a player and it s ucks that it feels like the game is just rolling dumb strategies on purpose for the sake of arbitrarily making battles harder / less rewarding.

I think battles should either be rehauled into a system you can choose to be active or idle in, and thus no longer predetermined when the page generates, or battles should have a built in skip button or even a user side setting such as “immediately skip campaign battle scenes”. Watching the right-facing PNGs poke the left-facing ones with zero input is not fun, and i shouldn't have to refresh my page every battle just to not sit through something the game has already determined my reward (or lack of) for.

To provide an alternate viewpoint, I really like the autobattles. Manual fights destroy my wrists and I can't engage with them for very long. I like the synergy system and deck-builder feel, and appreciate that I don't have to click away constantly to kill things. So I don't want to see it go away. If a manual toggle was added, it would without a doubt objectively be the ‘better’ way to play, because the player is going to be smarter than the autobattler. This means it would completely throw off the balancing. Manual fights would also negate the purpose of certain synergies, like the one that makes rogues prioritize backline fighters. I just don't see any way to allow players to manually take control without also inadvertently destroying the current autobattle in the process. And I am absolutely against that. It would drastically reduce my ability to participate in the site.

All that said, I would support an account setting to skip animations. I would also support an entirely separate game mode that is solely manual. For example, a separate 'Arena version2' queue, where the game is built with manual fights in mind and autobattles aren't an option. That way players who want that can have it, and players who don't can ignore it.

I think the campaign is fine as an auto battle but the gauntlet for sure needs a manual battle feature. Why have the guantlet if it's devoid of strategy bar team synergy and team position. I feel like because I do not have every companion available to me to make any synergy like in the arena then I should be allowed to strategise more in the targeting/move usage area.

I'm kinda neutral on the arena being autobattle or not so a toggle here would be good. The arena is fairly fast paced in my opinion and so I wouldn't be sure if I would be able to keep up juggling manual battle and team prep.

Sadly I can't imagine this being implemented due to the fact that it would need a complete overhaul to work :(

I would not want active battles at all. This is something that FR has, and it makes it difficult to spend time actually playing the Coli there.

I would support a skip animation toggle however. I don't need to see the battles to know the results.

Big support for the manual battle toggle feature! Or at least something to skip the whole animation of it. I just joined today and I'm loving a lot of the site features, but I do have to say I was pretty disappointed/confused when I got to my first few battles ^_^; I'd really adore the option to be able to do the battles myself or just skip the animations altogether and get to the result with an instant click (but more of a preference to fight manually tbh, i think it's fun).

I said out loud, "Oh boy," once I realized all I could do with the battles was watch ^^;

EDIT: I know this is an old thread, but I found it on the index and figured I'd voice my support here rather than just make a repeat thread of my own~

@Infenza in case you werent away you can refresh the page to skip battle animations! it will not show the rewards but you DO get them if you won the battle!

overall, no support. FR kills my hands/wrists for grinding because of so much movements. we have enough choices already by having non battle events which i feel gives variety in the auto battle
