I like to play with breeding mechanics and the storytelling of having a long offspring list. I especially love the stud system on Lorwolf, because it makes sharing colorways safely from my den possible instead of having to transfer over a beloved wolf and risk not getting him back after breeding. It's perfect, imo! But, I know that losing control over what appears on a favored character's sheet is a point of issue for a lot of players. While I personally like going through a long list of descendants and I don't invest much in how it looks or whether the names all have a similar aesthetic or lore, and I don't care about No Name wolves, for other players these potential outcomes may dissuade them from using the breeding system which permanently changes their pet's page to display a list of names and No Names. I have fun looking at how long a pet has been active on the site, and how long their line can become, and I hope my studs eventually have hundreds of entries to click through!!
All of this to say:
Offering this toggle to players would break this gameplay element for me, potentially breaking the ability to track lineages perfectly. Even with this in mind, at least as of now before reading other opinions on the subject, I have landed on the side of prioritizing letting individual players have final control over what user-generated content, specifically wolf names, appears on the page of their beloved pet. A toggle to hide the lineage from view from others/the player themselves is what I would support.
I don't know of another petsite that has anything like this, or what discussions have been held before regarding a toggle like this.
What this suggestion is not: a way to stop 'tos violating' user-generated content from bothering players - the reporting system for tos violation is in place for that. This is a suggestion intended to help players coexist in the same space but prioritizing what each player sees when they visit their pet.
