Support, people are mad rn and leaving i can see more posts about people BUYING referrals rather than referring people.

There's so many posts about buying referrals, its very saddening to see.

Complete support for either making the companions not soulbound or offering another way such as the friendship tokens I saw mentioned on other suggestions.

Support for all the reasons stated. And just adding, I don’t want to recruit people to play something just so I can benefit, I recommend games because I want my friends to enjoy them too. I can’t see myself willingly recommending a game where any progression is either payment exclusive or comes with a massive time commitment. If Lorwolf wants to entice more people to play it, it should focus on implementing player-friendly design choices over bribing its existing playerbase with referral rewards.

Definite support. I hate being a walking billboard. I don't even advertise my own webcomic anywhere because I hate advertising, and I hate being advertised to. I've already accepted these companions will forever be out of reach for me with the current restrictions. Not to mention just how MLM-y this whole thing is. Imagine you're doing this the way lorwolf intended. You refer one person, you both get one. you refer two people, now you get two and both other people have one. Both other people are supposed to now refer others in order to get more than one. At some point you WILL run out of available and willing people to sign up, there will be a hard cap eventually, and those at the tail end of signups are never going to get their remaining companions. The only way for everyone to get every companion is if people start marking multiple people as their referrer, which goes against the entire premise of getting new signups.

If there was ANY alternative to getting these companions, I'd be just fine with them being referral rewards I could buy off someone else. It's them being soulbound I have the biggest issue with.

I definitely support at least a couple alternate routes for getting the companions, since they insisted on making them so valuable to obtain for gameplay purposes. :/

Having a recruiting system at all at this early juncture feels real desperate, but I suppose that cat is out of the bag at this point and they aren't the first or the last pet site to come up with this... But taking on this aspect of other pet sites and ignoring the other QoL most of them offer..?

We've already seen where this has gone with people buying and selling their recruits, so if it's going to be deepest pockets wins... Why not just put the things up for sale on their own as well, so people have the choice of either showing their ankles to passersby and getting something for "free" in exchange for their legwork, or just shelling out for the thing they want directly.

Recruitment can have other benefits to make itself seem more "worth it" to those that were already going to be free advertisement for the game anyway; lift the 1000 water limit, let them have a % of moonstones as a reward when one of their recruits buys moonstones, that sort of thing.

Voicing my support for this! If there was any other way to receive these companions other than referring people it would be a huge relief to all the collectors out there, even if the way was just buying them for actual money or a large sum of moonstones and then trading for them from the users who could purchase them. Advertising to possible users on other sites is genuinely really unpleasant/annoying for everyone involved and as the system currently stands it will eventually become literally impossible for users to get all the companions, since the number of people who need join for that to happen is increasing exponentially by 5 with every new user who joins. If these adorable dogs were no longer soul bound it would be a huge relief for everyone on the site, both current and future players!
