@Little Daisy I am afraid the non-encouraging answer is to keep trying. It is entirely luck-based.
However, each time you fail you get a knuckelbone token. (These tokens can also be obtained by releasing wolves at lv10). Once you have 50 tokens, a Wild Wolf hunt will show up in the hunting profession. The hunt requires those 50 tokens and 15k pebbles, and will take half an hour. But it will guaranteed result in a random wild wolf.

What, isn't rng on top of more rng fun & satisfying to the user experience? Hahaha.
Jokes aside, like the others have said, 90% of encounters will fail. The less frustrating (and less food intensive~ ) way is to start collecting as many basidios and furlog deer/kapura companions from the mole market as you can. Once you get some more den space, you can then start assigning two deer/kapura for every wolf you put one basidio on; it pays to attach several of the same pebble companions first, and then manually play with them until they reach level 10. You get to stack more experience per species if you put the same one on a bunch of wolves, so it will make the next part faster--
Once the pebble companions are level 10, the two pebble companions per basidio will guarantee you are still making a small profit even if you play with your companions using Nana; the point here isn't to make money, it's just to avoid losing it. Alternatively, you can skip playing with Nana for a while and just put basidios on your wolves without worrying about the other companions if you don't mind playing with them all manually so you don't start bleeding pebbles. You should do this with wolves you want to release, of course-- Like Gaia said, releasing wolves only at level 10 will ensure you get a knucklebone token for each. Any wolf listed on the Flea Market for less than 10kp will net you a profit (once leveled) on release as well. It's not fast, but it's almost entirely passive! No point wasting food and disappointing encounters if you are willing to trade a little more patience for it.
