Under Starlight - OR: Mysti's Pack Lore(book)

My inclination to write lore for my wolves has gotten a bit out of hand, and now I need a forum post to keep track of it. Stars help me.

You CAN comment on here- but, if you wish to read all of the lore, you're gonna need to use the links below to skip any conversations, as I will be covering each lore piece (or Chapter, rather) in a different post- just to keep things neat.

Individual wolf lore (if they have any) can be found by going to that wolf's page- as well, any of my wolves' names will link to their respective page.

INDEX:

Posted Chapters:

Preface: Names, Stars, and Other Powerful Things

Planned Chapters:

The Pool and the Pack (more lore for the pack itself)

Magic, As We Know It (this one will be the most edited out of all of my chapters, I think, as I get more ideas to add to my magic system)

The Spirits (a new species- of sorts)

The Starkin (heheheheheheheh...)

(PS: Thanks to @spoot for helping me figure out linking to my other posts!)

Preface: Names, Stars, and Other Powerful Things

(An edited and expanded version of the original lore piece from my profile.)

If you were to ask a wolf from the Guiding Star Pack their name, they would respond with this: "Names have power."

For that is their main philosophy. Names are imbued with a powerful, ancient sort of magic- just like the stars and other cosmic phenomena, which they believe are a wellspring of magic few can understand- themselves included. It is why every Guiding Star wolf has a name related to that of the heavens- or, rather, a false name, used when talking to those outside of the pack- and newcomers to it, of course. It is simply necessary, when you live in the odd area they do, with the supernatural right on your door.

Do not think ill of them for it- it is a part of their culture, who they are.

And, as is also a part of their culture- if you gain their trust, if they'd place their life into your paws and hope that you'd do the same, you may be trusted enough to hear their true name.

But, due to their culture, there was only really one place they could fit in, that would respect their need for secrets: Darkspine. Even if its great trees could shroud many areas in the deepest of shadows, and the stars were nearly choked out.

And they survived, for a time, until they finally broke and searched for a place where the tree canopy was no more and they could finally see the stars once again.

And it is there they found the Pool which they guard, the Pool which they live their lives always near, the Pool with sheer magical potential that would rival what the most pessimistic of them thought would only lie in the stars. But the stars are more powerful still, and the Pool is merely their reflection on the water.

(I love writing pseudo-mystical-philosophical things that make no sense even to me!)
