Wolf Naming

What do y’all do when you don’t know what to name a wolf? I know some just name them the base color or leave them no named- what I’ve started to do is go to Google Translate and translate words to Japanese until I find one I like. For example, I had a wolf named Valentine, and I felt like the name didn’t fit. So, I went to GT and put in words till I found a name! Now she’s Murasaki, Japanese for purple!

Well...

When I don't just leave them an eternal No Name (something I REALLY need to get better at NOT DOING), sometimes I go to the forums, and other times I go research star names for hours... And even other times I just go 'okay what does this wolf make me feel like? What words come to mind when I look at them?"

And sometimes, songs help! Arabesque, my newest named wolf who was named yesterday- think he was originally yours?- was named after a lyric from The Light That Comes Through by Sparkbird- "Arabesque design, flourishes that fade with time", and a similar thing happened to Loreley and Arcturus.

Usually I just look at the parents names and then just kinda mix them together, either by how they sound or what they mean.

For example: If the parents names are Sun and Orchid

The children I would name maybe Sori, Sydney, Oak or smth similar

If the parents doesn’t have a name I most often just go by the looks, yellow wolf makes me think sunflower->Name on S->First name I think of that matches

If I don't find a suitable name, then I go towards the colors. If I don't find one I like in their details, I name them some rare color name I found the other day. I got a name I don't think I'll use, but if you want one, it's Gamboge. Kinda looks like a mango but way brighter and pee colored.

For wolves I'm keeping it's kinda just vibes based. It'll usually be a plant/natural thing the wolf reminds me of, something referencing when the wolf was born/where they came from, or just a name I think sounds nice. For wolves I'm selling or releasing I usually pick one or more of the colors they have, but I consider those to be placeholder names for ones I'm selling (I assume whoever buys the wolf will rename it to something they like better lol). Although there are a few wolves I named that way and ended up keeping (Caramel Cream my beloved <3)

In the beginning, I was naming everyone after food. As time has gone out, I've lost inspiration a bit and have been naming them "normal" things. lol

At first, I primarily kept WWs and I liked their given names. Something that belonged to them! But as time has gone on, I've started to change their names to fit the "characters" I make of them. I take inspo from all over. For example, this thread! Murasaki is a great name.

I just renamed a WW I dressed up to Komori, which is the name of the Bat Devil from CSM.

The original theme of my den was wolves named after plans, since they live in the "Grove of Life". I am doing the heavy-handed, disliked wolves were named after poisonous plants to dogs, liked wolves were named after neutral plants or pretty flowers. It really depends on their role and their lore, so if there are any dogs that I don't have an idea of their dynamic yet, they end up being unnamed until I figure out what I want to do with them, and then they will be named!

It's all over the place for me. Either it's words/names/references directly from my brain, or Googling about mythologies, or searching for regional/cultural "X names" (such as Swahili names, Maori names, Nahuatl names, etc). Edit: Oh, and looking up Greek philosophers, and probably other things I'm forgetting.
