Pings Using Usernames as ID

So there has been a problem recently with users not being pinged on forum threads. When I looked at the code behind the pings, it had links to our dens using our User names as Den IDs. That doesn’t seem right to me. When I clicked my pinged username, it takes me to my den, but the URL also is using my Username. Strangely, when I clicked my Avatar wolf at the top to go to my public facing den page, that URL is using my user id. So something is going on there a believe?
