Agree, agree, agree. I understand where devs are coming from… still, this is unbalanced and encourages some pretty bad behaviors for all the reasons mentioned above. Water is fine, so is currency, food and other items for in game stuff, but collectibles? Noooooo, don’t do that.
I'm so disappointed that they thought that making referrals retroactive was the move here and not just completely changing the method of getting the companions. I only had 2 friends interested in signing up and 1 hardly plays while the other doesn't play at all. My husband plays a lot but only one of us can refer the other (I assume, and even if not thats still only 1 for either of us). Why does there need to be any exclusive reward locked behind referrals? I have social anxiety and the thought of begging random people on the internet comes across as incredibly desperate and makes me want to shrivel up.
Every update the devs make great progress with bug fixes and features but also takes a huge step back with at least 1 bad decision per update. It's really starting to get under my skin. I want to support this website but every update I get closer to closing my wallet.
Anyways, support for any change. Make the companions accessible in multiple ways, remove them entirely from the referral program, anything. This is only going to encourage multi accounting and I agree with what I saw others saying about how this will only make lorwolf and lorwolf players look bad. It does come across as desperate.
Sorry for the rant. I am just so frustrated.
Editing to update that its been about an hour or 2 and there are now at least 4 forum threads dedicated to buying referrals. Great update.
Support! There's just no feasible way for every player to get all the companions- once the retroactive referrals run dry there just aren't enough people in the world who are interested in playing a new petsite long enough to qualify for the companions. That feels really unfair to the later players; it's reminiscent of the exponential recruiting of a mlm where every person needs to bring in five people under them to succeed. Not to mention how this will incentivize multi-accounting more the longer that the system is in place and the less possible getting the companions legitimately becomes.

Buy my wolves here! --> Wolves for ash! (2 lvl 10 wolves and 2 zerda available!)
People are already just buying referrals (retroactive or otherwise). This system has entirely failed, and honestly, I've lost all faith and interest in the site because of it, and from the looks of the cross-site-trading discussions, I'm not the only one. Hopefully LW realizes that retroactive rewards aren't enough and there just shouldn't be exclusivity in general for something like this before they bleed too many players.
