1. Make sure you do your fishing! You get one trip every 30 minutes, and you can store up to four trips at once. The fish you get here can be cooked to quadruple the stamina they give when eaten, and are the most reliable food source you'll have. FOOD IS IMPORTANT! Food gives stamina, the energy needed to do many things on the site. Without food, you will have to wait for your wolves to slowly regain stamina over time.
2. Make sure you cook your fish and meat! As mentioned in the previous point, cooking these will quadruple the stamina they give. There are more advanced recipes that you can make when you level up and get more ingredients, but don't worry too much about them while you're getting started.
3. You can do all four areas'/packs' campaign missions. Despite the flavor text of the quests, they won't actually change your pack, so don't worry. You'll get a lot of rewards and experience for doing them all, and progressing far enough into each pack's questline will give you a free companion (pet/familiar). Companions equipped by campaign members can be added to the campaign party and will fight without needing to be fed like a wolf!
4. The starting achievements are a great starting point for learning the site. The Starter rank achievements act as a sort of tutorial for many basic site mechanics, and they give you a lot of rewards.
5. You can ignore the Arena and Gauntlet when starting out. The Gauntlet requires a huge amount of stamina and won't be too rewarding for a new player with low level wolves/companions. The Arena doesn't require stamina, but it takes ages and is not very rewarding so I wouldn't focus on that, either.
6. The Flea Market is the player market. I DO NOT regret spending some of my starting moonstones in there to get a bunch of pebbles to get myself started buying recipes and other things. I still do this... a lot actually. You can also get some more wolves here to fill out your campaign party or assign to stamina-heavy tasks like mining or fishing.
7. The premium currency, moonstones, are not actually that hard to get. You'll be getting a ton for the beginner achievements, and trickled in through further achievements for a good long while. You also get shards of them from various activities that you can piece together into spendable moonstones. So don't be too afraid to spend some to get started. In the flea market, 1 moonstone is worth about 100k pebbles, which is A HUGE amount of pebbles for someone starting out.
8. The Mole Market is the site's main NPC shop. It refreshes at 12 AM/PM and 6 AM/PM site time (visible in the top right; site time is GMT/UTC). You can claim a free random item after every refresh, even moonstone items (rarely)! There are some items you can only get here.
9. Make sure you check your Autofeed settings in your Den to take out things you don't want to automatically eat on accident. You'll want to check on it regularly because it often will add in new things you find and you won't think to fix it until it's too late and you've already autofed your shiny new ingredients to your wolves.
10. There are two ways to get more space for more wolves. "New Den" costs moonstones and will let you have a new tab/group of wolves that starts with 10 empty slots. Scrolling down you'll find "Purchase Space" which costs pebbles and each purchase will let you have one more space within an already existing Den.
Bonus Info:
- {Wolf(#)} where # is the ID number of a wolf will post a picture of that wolf.
- {Item(#)} where # is the ID number of an item will post an interactive icon of that item -- item list can be found here (long/image heavy)
- @Username will ping a user; this will work even if that person has a space in their username. You can also use @# where # is the user's ID number, which you can find in their profile and profile URL. For example, my ID number is 16364, so @/16364 (without the slash) becomes @Damocles
- There are always giveaways and forum games going on for you to participate in! This community is very generous so don't be afraid to reach out and get some useful items, food, or even new members for your pack.
There is so much more to learn about the site but this is a good place to start. For more advanced information on a given topic, there are many more specific forum threads and spreadsheets out there -- feel free to ask for directions to anything more specific! I have a lot of bookmarks on my profile that you may find useful.
If any older players want to add anything in here, let me know and I'll add it -- just try to keep it not too advanced/overwhelming.
Some added tips thanks to Ello and Spoot.
