Communication

This is more for Alaunis.

I know you don't like to talk to the community, but we need something.

The lack of new items for the festival is inexcusable. It's one of the very few things we know was consistent with updates.

We don't need these automatic posts, we need content, we need to know what's happening behind the scenes.

WE NEED TO KNOW THIS SITE HASN'T BEEN GIVEN UP ON TO ROT.

It's not much to ask for tiny updates. Just a "Hey, xyz is being worked on, here's some progress pictures!" would be more than enough.

The radio silence is killing the site. The blatant "I don't care about this site anymore" is deafening.

New players come in, realize the site isn't being maintained, and then leave.

Old players are leaving because they realize there's no hope if there's no communication between devs and players.

Heck, the halloween companions are still in the mole mart, that by itself is enough to ruin the economy which was already in shambles.

The last Dev Log was from JULY 2025.

I get that you consider Lorwolf to be a "completed product," by Kickstarter standards, but it's never going to be a completed product as long as it's a live service pet site. Pet sites need updates to thrive, new things to see and do.

We were told that the second chapter of the story would come out soon, but is that even possible at this point?

Should we all just give up on the site and let it rot away after pouring hours and days into playing it?

I get it, real life is a thing, but it reaches a point where this is just ridiculous and it's clear as day you don't care for anyone on this site anymore, given this is like the fourth "Great Silence" or whatever.

It's a shame since Lorwolf had so much potential.

It is incredibly weird that this community specifically targets Alaunis for all complaints. We have received communication that there will be no further communication. It would be reasonable after this long for users to adjust their expectations. CAs are still being approved and reports are still being handled based on my own experience. There doesn't need to be a public personality of LW for the site to be "alive."

Mixed agree/support.

Agree: I agree that update on the Icerun Festival is warranted and this most recent non-update is concerning. The lack of announcement of Icerun Seasonal on the homepage made me feel that the seasonal even was not being prioritized. I agree that there should have been an announcement about Icerun Seasonal and a post or announcement addressing the lack of seasonal apparel and companions.

Disagree: I disagree that we need to hear directly from the founder and creator of Lorwolf. They have already made their stance on direct communication in an earlier post and I don't expect that to change any time soon. I also disagree with the use of "we" when referring to players giving up on the site. I do not agree that any player on Lorwolf can "know" the intentions or thoughts or feelings anyone on the development team have about the site. This crosses the boundary between constructive criticism and personal criticism. I do not believe personal criticism is constructive when giving suggestions.

Mixed: I am not trying to discredit the importance of Season Events and community expectations around how events function; specifically, new apparel for each seasonal event. I do not agree that lack of communication is killing the website. The website remains functional, but I do agree that lack of communication makes many players unhappy.

Thirding spoot and Dorian here. Also, my enjoyment of the site is at an all-time high right now. I have so many projects to get to. I am glad I get time to finish them all before the next "big thing" comes along. Also, the economy is just fine if you're participating in it. I spend my MS as soon as I get it. I rarely have more than 3 million pebbles. I only have 350 wolves and maybe a third are dressed right now. Dang real life taking up all my time. I can't get them all dressed. And I was just brainstorming some cool new lore. 😭 Ugh.

Edit: And what new people are leaving? We've gotten several new players active in the forums. Majority players aren't even on the forums. 😭

Hello all! I think there’s some dissatisfaction among some players because this site has so much potential that’s not being realized. It could have a lot more players with just a few changes which would make it more fun. I feel the owners were hoping this site would generate a lot of income right away instead of realizing it would need time for the player base to grow. Because they didn’t generate a lot of income right away, I feel they gave up. This is just how I feel - whether or not it’s true, idk. I’m still here because of the potential and am hoping one day it will get realized. I love these wolves!

I must say it would have been nice if there had been a message stating there wasn’t time for new Icerun event apparel this time, so we included moonstones instead (which I think is great) I think it needed to be addressed because some of us are wondering if there will be new apparel for the next event etc. Also, when supposed exclusive items are still being released in events from past years, it makes it feel a bit unprofessional? Maybe that’s not the right word. As I’ve said, I love this site and am hoping one day, there will be more to it along with statements and updates. I’m glad CA is still getting approved. I just wish there were more of it. ^^

Arillio was a browser game that was basically a pet site set in a zombie apocalypse. It was, ironically, deader than this site has been since I've joined. A couple (and I literally mean 2 or 3) users were all that was keeping it alive. The last communication had come from the site owners a few years ago, just saying that the site was not dead and they had plans to come back and that IRL was just happening a lot. Eventually the code started breaking down, stats were resetting randomly, but still a few of us played, even though we never heard anything from the devs, because we loved the site.

Then one day it was gone. The only proof it ever existed are some scattered mentions on other pet sites you have to dig for.

This was devastating, but it was something we had been bracing for for years at this point. It was actually what eventually led me to join here.

All this is to say, I understand where these fears are coming from. But I don't think the site is exactly at the 'rotting' point yet, especially when, as mentioned by others, there are genuine signs that the site is still being moderated and handled behind the scenes.

Would it be nice to have updates? Yes. Would it be nice to hear more communication? Yes. But like others here have said, the site has been in this state long enough that for now we need to adjust our expectations and "find the fun" ourselves, as it were, LOL. At least for now. They are obviously still paying to keep the site up, which is costly (and which I doubt they're making up for with premium purchases) and which they wouldn't do if they genuinely didn't care at all anymore. They wouldn't be moderating and approving CA if they didn't care at all anymore.

From what I've seen, this is not the first time someone amongst this userbase has been borderline hostile to the devs. I truly truly understand where you're coming from, but I don't think this is helpful for the site's longevity either. I don't think you can give the devs a 'kick in the rear' into action.

Whether or not you give up on the site is your choice, and not up to the devs. It's your choice to have faith (or to simply accept the site for what it is), or to move on to greener pastures.

For me, the site will be alive for as long as this many people are communicating and interacting, and as long as it's still being hosted and accessible, LOL.

Mixed/Conditional Support

I understand your anger, and as a new Lorwolf member and non-kickstarter backer, I'm not really in a position to say "it doesn't seem that bad!!!". I see you're both an Alpha & Beta tester so you've been here through it all, and I'm not trying to dismiss the justifiable feelings of frustration. This is just my take.

I would like to see communication from any staff. There's a whole mess of them listed on the 'About Us' page and I've seen neither hide nor hair of them. I would just like to know if they are alive? If they are being held hostage? If the site is being viewed by administrative eyes, at all? I saw some new CA was approved in the last few days, that was encouraging to see, and from the older users I have spoken to, many are very relaxed about this current absence of updates, so I am inclined to be as well.

I strongly disagree with targeting Alaunis, especially given that, from what I understand, staff silence is largely due to being directly targeted. I feel the answer lies in having moderator-tier staff relaying at least some information. Realistically, as an end-user of a live-service game, all I want is One Single Monthly News Bulletin. Heck, it could be quarterly and I would be content.

I would rather hear, "we won't be doing updates for the next X months" than have to guess.

I would rather hear, "we are working on back-end stuff that users will not directly see but will benefit the site architecture" than feel the site is being ignored.

I would rather hear, "thanks for your interest in LW, we have no updates to share at this time" than nothing at all.

I'm certain that a slew of negative responses to 'nothing-updates' like this has led to their decline, but I really think 'nothing-updates' aren't quite nothing. They're for morale. They're to encourage users that the site is still alive, that it's cared for. I can't blame the devs for taking a step back from hostility, no matter how justifiable it may be, but seriously just one or two words here and there would stop posts like this from coming up quite so often.

A little edit to add this blog post from George R. R. Martin because his perspective on fan expectations for the release of the final ASOIAF books feels relevant, to me.

@spoot

Given Alaunis is the owner of Lorwolf... and nobody else really does anything anymore... there's not exactly anyone else to go to. The staff page also hasn't really been updated, so there's nobody to reliably go to on staff that I know of, as Quiche is still listed on the staff list and they stepped down last year or so.

@Dorian

The use of 'we' is more of a hypothetical, but also to not make it sound like I'm the only one that feels this way and center it around myself.

@Wolfster

You're exactly right! The lack of notification about the event is extremely unprofessional and causes distrust with the community on if the owner still cares or not. Just a simple "hey, just so you know, there's not going to be any new stuff this year" would say a lot more than radio silence.

@Damocles

What I'm asking for is bare basic communication that shows that things are still being worked on. Tiny updates just letting us know that they're still alive. Just because the CA queue is going through doesn't mean anything else is being worked on. I'm pretty sure it's a different team that works on the CAs.

@ardaxia

The staff page isn't even up to date. Quiche stepped down like last year, so I can't even trust the About Us page. The main reason why Alaunis is being directly referred to is because she's the owner of the site and the sole person that controls what happens. She's the only one that's reliably on the staff. I would also call into question JimJim, but I have no idea about their whereabouts, given the lack of update on the staff page. I agree that I'd rather hear "there won't be updates this month" or x amount of months. It's the mention of things being worked on but never proven or given any other information that makes it feel like it's not being worked on at all. At this point, the weekly autoposts are more of an annoyance and when you look on the announcement page it just shows "wow, they uh... really don't try anymore, do they?" And also there not being a dev log since July 2025 is also a little absurd, because that was one of the few ways that the community knew, oh hey, this is still being worked on. Sorry, I'm rambling a little here, but I'm also very frustrated with the lack of communication, and as someone that was here since Alpha, played through the beta, and supported the KS in one of the higher tiers, it's very disheartening to see something with so much potential just flush it all down the drain.

I don't exactly know how to feel about this. First of all, why is it Alaunis that's usually targeted? Like, I get that she's the one who usually posts about updates and the weekly events, but it's not as if we're completely cut off. CAs are still getting approved, meaning the staff are still active. New players are joining, and there was never that many consistent forum people anyways. Even still, seeing a short little note in the forums reading "Thanks for playing so far, progress has been slow." would still be appreciated. But yes, all of the negative responses is probably what's causing their silence, and you can't really blame them because there's a lot of enthusiastic people, and only 5 Lorwolf staff, and 6 Lorwolf volunteers. There's a user in Creative Credits, and a whole lot of patreons. Currently, any time I log on, there's at least 150 players online. Usually more. And yes, I know the last patch note update was about the goldsea seasonal apparel and companion + a few fixes for it. Also, have you considered that this is why the patch note threads are now locked?

@Ello

The staff page is not up to date. Quiche is still listed there, and they stepped down last year or so. So the staff page isn't reliable.

The weekly posts, yes, posted by Alaunis' account, are automatic. They aren't personalized. It's like scheduling a tweet on twitter, only every week. They're posted at the exact same time every week, without fail. That doesn't count towards staff activity or things being worked on.

Also, the patch notes are always locked upon posting, it's not a new thing or anything to do with posts like this. It's to make sure that nobody derails it ( because we all know someone would try and post something like hehe peanuts or something in that vein. ) and to keep the patch notes neat and organized.

There would be so much less negativity if we got a simply monthly, "I'm alive, yes/no this is being worked on. There won't be updates this month."

I'm pretty sure a whole different team works on the CA queue, so that's a different story in and of itself, because they're approving user made content, not widely available site content such as a new companion.

And tbh, the only reason so many people are on right now is due to the seasonal event going on. Usually it lingers around the 50-100 player mark. Events always spike player numbers.
